Hello Facepunch, today I decided to try out Minecraft on my new PC (I used to play it on my old comp) and honestly? I'm pissed off.
On average on my old computer (it was shit by the way) I got about 160 FPS when the game was "maxed out".
Now I get about 40.
I don't know what the problem is, this new comp isn't the greatest but it still gets the job done. I can do shit like run Gmod maxed out (aa and everything) at like 80 fps on average.
If you want, I'll post specs.
At first I thought that the Op was going to complain about how bad of a First Person Shooter Minecraft is. :v:
When did the FPS start dropping?
Have you tried updating your card? I know it's a rather trivial question, but that's the cause of some of these problems on a surprising amount of occasions.
Graphics card isn't the problem when it comes to Minecraft. The game doesn't even use your GPU.
OP, posting your specs should be obvious. I'd like the of both machines.

I'm not touching the last comp, it's actually a pile of shit and rarely starts up.
I really don't remember how to check specs
I'm just going to use this thread to ask if I could do anything to improve my FPS externally (away from the game's settings).

Today, because I just tried it.
It started out with like 7 FPS, which was bullshit. Then I switched to the lowest settings, 15 fps, then switched back to high, 25. So basically I kept doing that and now it wont go higher than 40-50
Change the settings from Fancy to Fast and change the lighting settings.

Use the sticky by the way, this didn't need a thread.
Reinstall java
Did you just start a new world? Because FPS drops would be from the chunk generating. And explains the spikes.
You complain about 40 FPS? On some games I go down to 10, 40 would be a dream for me. However, on minecraft that's pretty bad. Are there any programs that take up a lot of RAM running in the background?
Probably your processor or HDD..
Same-ish for me. My FPS went down to about 50-60 when before the update it was 90-100ish.
Seriously, though. Post your current specs. If you don't know how to do it, Windows key + R, type in "dxdiag", post your specs as they show up.
Minecraft (and Java) are touchy when it comes to the FPS, yesterday I was getting 20fps, but when I maximised the window it jumped to 40fps (Showing nicely that it isn't GPU bound)
I get horrible FPS if there's an internet browser running in the background. Especially with Chrome and FF. Maybe that's what's causing the issue?

Wait what?
