Far Cry 2 game breaking glitch?

I didn't know exactly where to post this, so mods please move it if it's not in the right place.

So I was doing that mission in the Southern Territory where you have to save your buddy on the barge. I drive up there, kill all the enemies, meet him on the barge and he's just stood there looking dumb. I can't talk to him or anything; I tried walking through the door on the higher floor of the barge, and nothing happens.

In the end I googled it, and it sounds like the only remedy is to reload to a save prior to the glitch (of which I have none), or just start a new game. Which is why I'm asking you, FP, if you've played Far Cry 2 and know any way around this.
