It was very different from other RTS's because you couldn't actually control your units and it was half simulation in that there were aspects of control and management.
Majesty is a "simulation" in that it is designed to implement a clichéd fantasy role-playing game world in another genre entirely. As such the setting, Ardania, features city sewers infested with giant rats, landscapes dotted with ancient evil castles, and soldiers helpless against anything bigger than a goblin. As Sovereign, the player must rely on hiring bands of wandering heroes in order to get anything done. Base-building is comparable to other real-time strategy games of the period, but units are autonomous — a feature usually associated with construction and management simulation games — and possess attributes borrowed from RPGs. The Sovereign's actions are limited to constructing and enhancing buildings, using building abilities and spells, hiring heroes, and offering rewards. The basic building is the palace, and its loss means the loss of the game. Guilds and temples can be used to summon and house heroes (typically four per building), almost all other ones offer equipment or services (inns, royal gardens, etc.) The henchmen are free non-hero characters that are nonetheless essential to maintaining the realm. Peasants construct and repair buildings. Tax collectors collect gold from guilds and houses to finance the realm. Guards provide defence against monsters. Trade carts come from trading posts to the marketplace, where they deliver gold based on the distance they travelled. Each scenario (or quest) has a unique map. Even if the player chooses the same quest twice, it will have a map that, while retaining the general terrain of the region, is totally different. The map is initially shrouded in blackness, but all activity in explored areas can be viewed no matter how far away from a building or character it is, with no fog of war.
Now, we may all relive those wonderful experiences in 3D with the upcoming MAJESTY 2! Oh yes, that's right.
Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim is an upcoming real-time strategy game developed by 1C:Ino-Co and published by Paradox Interactive. The game was announced on April 18, 2008 and is scheduled for release on September 18, 2009. It is a sequel to Cyberlore's Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim. Paradox announced that they will be updating and reinventing aspects of the game, but the humour and charm of the original Majesty will remain. Gameplay Majesty 2 is a real-time strategy game set in a high fantasy world with a medieval feel. Majesty 2 makes several changes to both the typical fantastic setting and the RTS formula, as did its predecessor. Control scheme The player, styled as "the sovereign", serves the traditional role of directing the affairs of his own empire. However, the individual units are semi-autonomous. Each is an individual with his or her own statistics and inventory, crossing over into the role-playing genre. The sovereign can entice these units with several types of "flags", indirectly controlling their general movements. The sovereign serves a more direct role in the establishment of buildings and the recruitment of heroes. He also collects gold, which funds these improvements. Heroes The heroes of Ardania are the real focus of the game. They drive the economy and fight enemies. Heroes can be recruited at their own guilds. There are many classes and abilities, ranging from the arcane Mage to the armored Paladin. Heroes can be formed into groups where they are more cooperative with each other, with skills varying depending on the composition of heroes. Particularly worthy heroes can be made into Lords at the completion of each mission, which allows them to be summoned in later quests. Low-tier heroes can be "promoted" into higher, specialized heroes, which opens up new possibilities in development.
Gameplay: It's release date right now is September 18th, 2009. Oh thanks for telling me what it's really about and stuff
Oh thanks for telling me what it's really about and stuff
Right well there isn't much info about the sequel but I just put some stuff about the first one.
I had no idea it was a sequel to a first one(except the fact it said majesty "2") all you said is HOLY FUCKING SHIT MAJESTY 2
Never heard of Majesty, but this looks godly. Gonna keep an eye on this one.
:uhoh: Majesty was my 2nd stratigy game I ever had, and sadly it was one of the most original and coolest ones as well. To be honest though from the look of the screenshots it looks rather dated, and not to mention the art style looks too cartoony and "bright"
the art style looks too cartoony and "bright"
Is that a bad thing? Majesty 1 was always pretty comical anyway
Never heard of Majesty, but this looks godly. Gonna keep an eye on this one.
There's never been an RTS game like it before really. It's kind of like Sim City but with castles, and instead of directly controling units, you control your kingdom, and try to defeat the other opponent by support/having the right guilds/factions in your kingdom, putting bounties up on enemy heroes and buildings, and you unlock special kingdom powers as your guilds/factions you support in your kingdom grow in power. It's kind of like Black and White actually, except instead of the creature it has the whole guild/faction/kingdom/sim-city aspect. Edit:
Is that a bad thing? Majesty 1 was always pretty comical anyway
Not quite. The look of everything was almost a kind of "black humor", with stuff having a very detailed look to it (for it's time), but the way things were set up was kind of humourus. This looks more like "silly comic humor" ala TF2 than the type of stuff Majesty 1 looked like.

I'm really excited for this, thanks for the info!
I installed it and I'm playing it now on XP. It's good to play it again :D Ah shit stupid spiders killed all my rogues :( Gnomes are the best, they're like illegal aliens that do all your work for free.
FIRST STRATEGY GAME I EVER HAD HOLY SHIT! It better have the knights of discord or i'm gonna barf.
I loved Majesty! I could never beat a specific mission though, I think its the one where the Devil is trying to make you get like $500,000 in so many days or years or whatever.
It would be awesome if you can take over units FPS stile.
I hope they improve the art style in it. I'm not really a fan.
FUCK YEESSS!!!!

I think they were called Fervors. They sounded like Wood Elves from Morrowind, and were pretty :krad: Of course Wizards were the best and had the best kingdom spells, minus the fact that they never got out of their fucking wizard towers and were weak as fuck (4 HP) until they got strong and could cast shield spells where they would own everything.

Video is up now.
"I'M MELTING" spammed trough your speakers.
Reminds me of Black & WHite.
"I'M MELTING" spammed trough your speakers.
Wizards for the ultimate win.
I am going to look for the first one, it looks :krad:
I added another movie, it's the actual trailer not the gameplay. Pretty funny too :v:
Needs more blood though :sax:
God I love Majesty. I played it religiously back in the day, and I was so fucking excited when I got the expansion. I just hope to god they don't fuck it up, and make the graphics more dark, and realistic, like the original. And wizards better look good. Bitches dun be messun around with mah wizards. God, I remember when you'd have like a level 20 wizard, then some fucking ogre would hit him and kill him. And you'd be all like ...
Hells yeah, can not wait for this one. I am also very happy they used the original music in that trailer. Though one thing that peeved me about the game was about how awesome the metor spell was, but it was rarely used =/

I found this trailer: Looks pretty funny, almost in a Shrek kind of way :v: But I still HATE how cartoony it looks. Majesty wasn't cartoony at all in art style, I think they should stick to the old visual style.
When I was in Primary school I bought a copy of the original Majesty for $20 in one of those book club catalogs, I loved this game. I don't know if I will get the second one since it doesn't look as good as the first.

Looking back on it, it involves no real strategy and seems like a dumbed-down RTS for kids. ...but it's still very original.
