I want to gift my friend with css on his birthday, but the offer is on today and his birthday is on the 1st January. How can I make it so that he doesn't see it until then?
Dude, I can't awser you but you know, wait for new year, last year I bought CS:S for 10$ I think, and It lasted for a week I think.

I've gifted him the game but it didn't appear in my game list :/
If you gifted him, shouldn't it appear in HIS gamelist?

If you've gifted him the game it'll appear in your friends game list, not yours. But it should appear on your gifted games list.
Check by going to the game list at the top of the main steam screen, where it says File - View - Games - Help an select manage gifts and passes to see if he recieved it successfully or not.
Would be useful if you could delay them getting it for birthday reasons and so on, maybe you should suggest that in the steam forums ?
You should be able to buy it as a gift but not send it until you want to.
