This morning I was rooting through some stuff and found Lego rock raiders and Vice city, I rushed straight back into my room and installed them, I had a very Fun day of being Tommy and protecting my Miners, It got me thinking Nowadays its all graphics and improving that mans stache' to be more stache-er' Some games are retaining some stuff though ( COD mw series Story is decent) but not being Fun I had a kill count of 124 people 57 cops and 6 rock monsters So where has the fun gone?
you aren't looking hard enough
well get use to it cus it gona get ever more bad game play and good graphic, that why im getting back to n64/psx age
Crysis Good graphics No gameplay
Look for some indie games, they usually focus more on gameplay or story.
Also, part of the issue is that you're older and have been exposed to more, better games. You keep looking for something new but you've experienced so much at this point that it's getting harder and harder to come by.

Gameplay IS improving, you just aren't noticing quite as much thanks to the graphics and this kind of thread. There may be less revolutionary things being done, but we are getting improvements nonetheless. With better graphics we get the ability to make stealth games more accessable and visually correct, you can easily see where your PC is, and where your enemies are, with new control styles we get more freedom in actions. With better physics engines we get better puzzles. All these upgrades in game technology present us with the possibility to move forward in terms of gameplay. Some developers jump on this chance, adding some nice features to enhance the game, others ignore it and cater to the graphic whores. Compared to older games, gameplay is of a higher standard on average, you just see the older games as better thanks to nostalgia.
Go play Dwarf Fortress, young man.

wow you are the first one to say gameplay > graphics somebody give this man a medal for being one of the finest thinkers of the generation
Very nicely put.
Why thank you kind sir. Have a heart thing.
I had more fun in GTA IV that has better graphics than Vice City, although Vice City gets 20 extra points for being nostalgic.
Besides a couple of exceptions, gameplay has remained about the same for a while. Gaming standards change according to what the majority want, prettiness and physics are usually the top priority. Take off your nostalgia goggles, Vice City wasn't nearly as fun as GTA IV.
Graphics Enhances Gameplay and Immersion, Gta 4 Crysis Dirt 2 Brothers in Arms HH With out their stunning graphics the game would start to become dull and ugly. It adds alot to have good graphics, thats why games like Trail bike 2 caught my eye at first glance because it looked so sharp and new.
Indeed. We don't notice gameplay so much thanks to immersion. Try and immerse in a Megadrive game for example, it's hard, so you default to nit picking the gameplay itself. Fast forward to the next FPS game to come out, you stop paying attention to gameplay as much as it is at the accepted standard, and the graphics distract you from flaws due to immersion.

Kinda preferred GTAIV to Vice City since you don't INSTADIE IN WATER
I prefer Fallout 1 to Fallout 3. and it can't be nostalgia since I only played it for the first time this year.
