What would happen if Steam shut down? - Games

So I was just wondering the other day, what would happen if steam could no longer afford to continue its services? Theoretically of course because I doubt that's gonna happen any time soon. Personally I think they'd offer all of your owned games back as one time downloads. Discuss.

They said that if they ever do shut down, they would remove all DRM from your games and then go away.

I would hope that they would allow you to download an installer.

I'd cry, literally. I only play games that I have on Steam nowadays.

I'd save the game keys that I can save. ArmA II, for example. I can just use the beta patch (non steam executable). I still have the key in the registry, so no problem.. If i need to play it on another computer, I'll simply copy the registry.

they said in an interview that they have a panic button that removes all drm from steamgames in case steam ever has to be shut down

They make so much money off of Steam there is no reason why it would ever go away. Unless the internet goes away entirely, Steam is here to stay.

The only difference is that you wouldn't need Steam to run the games.

If Steam's DRM was removed, wouldn't that remove VAC too? I'll be h4xin on dem counter strikes.
