So I was just wondering the other day, what would happen if steam could no longer afford to continue its services?
Theoretically of course because I doubt that's gonna happen any time soon.
Personally I think they'd offer all of your owned games back as one time downloads.
Discuss.
They said that if they ever do shut down, they would remove all DRM from your games and then go away.
I would hope that they would allow you to download an installer.
I'd cry, literally. I only play games that I have on Steam nowadays.

My dull mind does not comprehend :sax:
I would go :byodood:
I would go on living my life, completely unaffected.
What's with all of the "What ifs". It's kid shit so stop it.
I dunno, I was just wondering and wanted to know what other people thought.
I haven't really been keeping up with games discussion so NUUUUH!
I would be upset, maybe.
No More Lag!

by the way, it's VALVE not STEAM that would shut it down if it could no longer afford it (which it won't) STEAM is a program, not the company that makes it :eng101:
I'd save the game keys that I can save. ArmA II, for example. I can just use the beta patch (non steam executable). I still have the key in the registry, so no problem.. If i need to play it on another computer, I'll simply copy the registry.

No it says in the user contract that they have no obligation to but the probably will
they said in an interview that they have a panic button that removes all drm from steamgames in case steam ever has to be shut down

Besides the fact that it will never shut down. They make so much money off of Steam there is no reason why it would ever go away. Unless the internet goes away entirely, Steam is here to stay.

"remove all drm from steam games"
DRM?
[QUOTE=Bletotum;18805823]"remove all drm from steam games"

DRM stands for digital rights management.

Digital rights management. You know, that shit that stops you installing a game after X installs, or on two PCs at a time. In Steams case it just disables running without the Steam API launching it.
Oh so if it went down it wouldn't be a bad thing.
Lol.

I highly doubt they have the contractual rights to do that for games they don't own. Valve games? Sure. Anything else? Be prepared to eat a dick.

If their company goes down the shitter I don't think they will care about contracts.

Why wouldn't they be able to? You've paid for the game, and they've paid what they owe to the developers.
The only difference is that you wouldn't need Steam to run the games.
If Steam's DRM was removed, wouldn't that remove VAC too?
I'll be h4xin on dem counter strikes.
Have fun hacking the non-steam servers with admins on them :v:
There would be no counterstrike main server, so you couldn't browse for games
