Hello Black Mesa fans!
We come to you once again with an update. It's now the end of 2009, and we know many of you have literally counted the days down until this fateful month. We are floored by the level of support you have given us and are very excited we're so close to reaching our goal.
Unfortunately, to our great disappointment, Black Mesa will not make a 2009 release.
Cynics may now rejoice, bets may be collected, and I think a mod team member has to eat his shoe, but we hope our loyal fans will forgive us and realize that the delay will translate into a better final product that's (hopefully) more easily available to everyone.
Once again we apologize for what has to be very disappointing news. We placed a 2009 deadline on ourselves to motivate us and bring this 6 year project to a close. And while we didn't quite make it, we have come very close, and you can expect a complete, polished game to hit your hard drives in the near future. We'll be sure and update if anything changes. Until then, hang tight, it's coming!
My personal comment: Goddamnit
aw damn it..:frown:
Dude, six years? Good Lord, It's like Episode 3, twice.
Game's taking as long as HL2 took.
I'ma remain hopeful for a Jan/Feb release.
...
Gaybows inbound
Does it take one mod really that long to produce? What the hell are they putting in it to take so long. If there isn't sharks with fucking laser cannons in it i'm going to be pissed

They're remaking a 20-hour game for no money in their spare time.
At least i hope it will look good
I understand that :p
since they have a life and not doing BMS as a main thing

It's probably going to be longer then 20 hours, the maps look a lot bigger then the original ones.

yes however they have a lot done for them already. the story, map layout (gameplay flow, and general layout), weapon design, physics/rendering/sound engine, character animation system, script dialog, character design, environment design, and some other stuff I forgot. keep in mind that they are not building from the ground up.

trust me you dont know shit

And they don't even have to spend time conceptualizing.
Although I can forgive them, as they're a mod team and are doing this for free.
Edit: And I'm eating my words now. I was one of those that swore they would release in '09.
Why am I not surprised it's being delayed again? Infact I thought the project died by now.

Wouldn't really call it a 20-hour game, my record on beating it atm is 1 hour and 40 min something. The craziest record though was 50 min, then someone beat it with 40 I think.

They still have to create all the content for those that are gonna make it a 20 hour game, though.

They've probably found a fuckton of bugs and thought "We can't release it in this state!"
i heard about this eariler this morning... makes me sad... well now its a race... HL:S or HL2:Ep3 WHO WILL WIN
I'm fine with it. I mean from what I've seen they've really come a long way. At least they're still keeping at it and do plan on finishing it.
And most of all, at least they're making sure that a remake of what is heralded by many as the greatest video game of all time is a quality product. I'd rather they make sure it's ironed out and finished than it be rushed to meet a deadline. I can tell that setting a deadline for themselves in the first place has sped up its development, so I believe them when they say it'll be out soon.
Apparently that statement was dumb rather than disagreeable, so keep that cardboard comin'. :downs:
I have to admit, what they have shown so far is awesome. A complete re-creation of both single player and multiplayer versions of Half-life built from the ground up with only the Source engine SDK to guide them.
does this actually surprise anyone?
Wow... shock horror.

These delays = a better final product eh? Well after 6 fucking years of development it better be the best damn product in the world.
This is horrible

You act like you have to pay for it.
Our minds are gonna be blown when this gets released, as scotchair said.

....youve got to be kidding me...it took me a year to beat half life and this guy got it in 30 minutes....
:argh:
First TSLRP, now this. Every mod I get excited about... bah, I just don't care anymore.
6-Year development cycle with a delay ... where have I heard that before?
