I was browsing around looking for cool space game when I came across Terran Conflict. It looked pretty cool but the lack of an actual playable demo was a little disappointing. Anyways, for those of you that own this game I was wondering if it's still worth buying and is it fun to play? It's only on for $20 on Steam so if it sounds good I might buy it. Thoughts...?
It's not a game everyone can get into. The learning curve is quite steep and you will probably die a lot as well as be confused a lot in the beginning. The economic side of the game is quite a large part and is quite deep, with some quite complex production chains. The campaign missions are not that great either, the sandbox is really where its at. It's quite rewarding if you stick with it, but like I said it's not really for everyone.
This game is awesome, it is just difficult when you start, I didn't even start a campaign, I just went straight into sandbox mode and messed about.
It's a Sandbox type game... But you can go from a small 2 cannon ship to a big ass carrier that can hold 72 of those little tiny ships that you can give orders to... Fleets of Combat Ready ships or Fleets of Trade ships... Piracy, slave trading, Illegal goods smuggling... build an Empire of complexes all interconnected that the AI Ships will flock to and buy from with adjustable Buy and Sell prices, everything
Not to mention mods that let you take over sectors, claim them as your own, pit races against each other in all out war, and an endless amount of changes that would take years to explain

Yep. There's nothing like being able to own lots of ships and remote control them. No other space freeroaming thing I know is going to give you that sort of freedom.

I actually started playing this again the other day, most people will have already warned about the steep learning curve - and it is pretty heavy but if you get into it you will love it.
The storyline missions are really only important to open up new sectors and to give unique rewards.
this game is like a single player EVE, very steep learning curve. best way to make money is to haul shit constantly
I love the game and completely understand it now, the only thing holding me back from enjoying late-game is my PC, I can't stand playing a game at 10fps without SETA on.
I just got back into this recently, what with the new patch..
It's still fucking awesome!
The previous X game, X3: Reunion has a demo, but it just gives you a basic sense of what the combat is like, and uses X3: Reunion's old, clunky menu system
It's an amazing game, and the soundtrack alone is worth the 20$ in my opinion.
Just a word of warning: It can start out very slow, and it's best if you have someone on STEAM to advise you. Or you can read the 110 page manual.

Manual's circa 50 pages, max, and has some/lots of stuff wrong, but it gives the general idea.
Thanks guys. Guess I'll get it, to hell with the learning curve, although no one I know has ever even heard of this game so it might be a challenge.
i can't figure out how to play this game :v:
First time I played X2 (used it's tutorials to learn stuff), I couldn't figure out how to move :ohdear:
We should make a vent server or chat with people helping each other out with this game.
Seems like a great game so far. Got the ship controls figured out. I did the first campaign up to patrolling Neptune or whatever and I was just wondering if I should just go custom game, continue the one I'm on, or play a different campaign?

Even if you start with the Terran character you can do any campaign in the game, any non-terran can also do the terran one, they just have to get to the quest giver and get to the start first.
I have an old shitty windows 98 PC, and I played the original X on it. Loved it to bits. Played the next game, X-Tension, couldn't get anywhere near enough money to do anything fun so I got bored. Didn't like X3 either. The only X game I liked was the first one.

The one included with the STEAM copy has two pages on each page of the PDF; there's two page numbers on each page
