Hello GD let me tell you about a little game called Wurm Online (also thanks mods for allowing us to post this in GD) http://www.wurmonline.com/ Basically Wurm Online is a Medieval aged survival MMO reliant upon crafting, exploring, and community building. Unlike other "community based MMOs" that are more like social networking games, Wurm's gameplay sorta forces you to work together because some things, such as crafting ships or giant statues, are daunting tasks even for the most turbonerd poopsockers. The crafting is pretty straightforward: mine iron ore, smelt it in a forge (which also has to be crafted), use your (crafted) tools on iron lumps/anvils, etc you get the picture. For wood shit, you cut trees down with an axe, cut the felled tree into logs, use your saw/carving knife on the log, and so on.. Everything kinda explains itself, and discovering how to craft is part of the magic of Wurm so I won't go into much detail. Wurm has been likened to 3D multiplayer Dwarf Fortress, which is a pretty good comparison. The game's graphics are OKAY, there are animations but they could be at best described as "quaint". That's not the point though, the gameplay more than makes up for it. I might also add that Notch, creator of Minecraft, was heavily involved in Wurm as a co-developer years ago. Exploration is a big feature of Wurm. The islands/continents (which are servers basically) are, if my memory is right, 16x16 kilometers. NOTHING in Wurm is pre-generated or pre-made (besides obvious things like server portals), the terrain was randomly generated when the servers were launched, and all towns and items are created by players. So, if you wander through the woods and find a giant spire, or ruins of an old castle, that was someone's pet project months ago! There's also dynamic weather; day/night cycles, rainstorms, thick fog, sandstorms, etc. I should also mention that there are no loading screens except for the initial one. Terraforming is also a big part of Wurm. The terrain is grid-based, and you can mine rock and dig/drop dirt to morph the terrain, like this giant ramp someone made. Other possible projects are things like massive earth walls around towns, big docks for ships, or just giant fuckoff dong towers. Here's a few more screenshots Guess what, Facepunch has a presence in Wurm, and we want you to play too! How to Start go to http://www.wurmonline.com/ and register an account, it's free (unless you want to pay for other features, but free accounts can do basically everything as it is) If it prompts you to pick a kingdom/server and shit, don't worry about it. As a free account you are limited to the Golden Valley server, which is smaller than the main servers. Skills are capped at 20, but this really doesn't detract from the fun. Starting the Game Once you spawn, you will need to first of all find the FP camp. Here is a guide courtesy of Bloodshed:
Bloodshed's Guide to FP Camp (with pictures) Go straight out of place that you spawn. But if you've managed to find our camp then we'll probably help you out. Wurm's a very socialist/communist sort of game, so if you need something, just ask a comrade. If you want a sense of what FP's done in Wurm, here's some Wurm wiki articles I guess you could read: http://wurmonline.com/wiki/index.php?title=The_Promised_Lands http://wurmonline.com/wiki/index.php?title=Facepunch A word of warning though: the community is naturally filled with the pubbiest sort of pubbies imaginable. That makes it all the funner to troll them by, though! I guess you can use this to talk amongst people: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=897529 HOW TO FIND WATER FOR FISH AND DRINKING:
Do it, you can steal stuff. Steal carts, fill with other stolen goods, bring to base filled with more stolen goods. Also, you will get killed by all animals. And Rolf is a faggot, and the mods are his sextoys.
Join, join, join. Message me ingame if you want a guide to the camp, type in: /t Komkastik words words words
Sounds interesting, Graphics indeed are real bad
what is home what is wild server where is fp
there alright depending on your computer. [editline]11:05PM[/editline] Freedom is home kind of, its full of pussies. Wild is pvp and is even pussier and noone fights. Were on free server-aka Golden Valley. On registration page just pick either.
Sounds interesting, Graphics indeed are real bad
Wurm has its moments sometimes, mostly depending on the landscape and lighting.
what is home what is wild server where is fp
You have to pay for wild server, Just register and start up the game and message me like I posted above and I'll lead you to the camp.
I guess I'll join under the name Theserver.
Sounds fun. But do we have a goal? Or this just the usual "steal everything and piss people off" kind of deal?
Sounds fun. Will be there.
Blah, Wild is where all the fun times can be had.
lets do this.
Omw, ingame user is same as forum user.
Hmn, good luck to yer invasion.
Message me when you get in game and I'll lead you here.
Since you're on the free server, I shall join you. I was part of Fort Oak and then one of the founding members of Lupus Pactum. I remember logging in the day before Wild became p2p and finding LP left as a flattened, paved and walled area full of decaying buildings, discarded tools and giant fucking scorpions. Shame GV is absolutely tiny. I replayed when PC Gamer had a feature on it and accidentally found myself following in the guy's footsteps exactly, right down to taking a wrong turn and ending up in the sea beside a partially built abandoned village containing the same bear.
I might try this
Sounds fun. But do we have a goal? Or this just the usual "steal everything and piss people off" kind of deal?
Depends, right now our goal is basic sustenance! We only have one building up and that's a 1x1 shanty. I think eventually we want to build a colosseum to have fighting tournaments in.
Downloading a huge graphics.jar pack and sound.jar. This is going to take a while, it's incredibly slow. :saddowns:
I have made a cauldron, now we can eat shit soup all day hope you guys like 60 gallons of water mixed with a single leaf of thyme
Which kingdom should I start at?
I'm downloading them jars graphs done fuckj sodufsdn
Joining.
Which kingdom do I start at?
doesn't matter, you'll spawn on GV since you are a free account
You're about four years late.
When you register, the kingdom and server you choose DO NOT MATTER. Those choices are made later; if you ever choose to move to either Freedom or Wild, you choose your kingdom when you do (Freedom only has one kingdom, same one as GV). Freedom is no-pvp land, Wild is 3-way kingdom PVP. However, if you are going to be a free player, none of this matters as you are confined to Golden Valley anyway. GV is no PVP, but you also can't plant deeds and if you can't fence something in, you can't own it. Make sure to keep everything locked up, as GMs on GV can't help you very much. Try not to piss off the locals, despite everything said here. You can, but it's gonna bite you in the ass later, trust me. Oh, one more thing: it is Facepunch tradition that all FP splinter camps are destroyed. You're welcome to leave anytime, but you are not welcome to take everyone with you. Consider yourselves warned.
also you guys might want to be aware that the servers are lagging a bit for some reason, it's not usually this bad
Oh this again. Ryan do you ever give up on this? It always fails. And all wurm players hate facepunchers. Never the less it's been fun starting things over and over only to quit for one reason or the other.
I have made a cauldron, now we can eat shit soup all day hope you guys like 60 gallons of water mixed with a single leaf of thyme
You made me giggle.
