Most of you played the awesome 2008 videogame Dead space, right? Well then most of you know the ship U.S.G Ishimura in which the game is set in. The Reason i made this thread is because i like the U.S.G Ishimura in terms of Size and Design!

"The USG Ishimura was first of the massive planet cracker ships, and was named after astrophysicist Hideki Ishimura (inventor of the ShockPoint Drive, a form of FTL travel). Built 62 years before the beginning of the Dead Space narrative, the Ishimura has had a long and storied career under the ownership of the Concordance Extraction Corporation . The Ishimura was the first Vessel of her size to Utilize the Shockpoint Drive for large-scale, commercial, and deep space expeditions. Its total crew complement is 1,332, consisting of miners, scientists, engineers, security personnel, medical staff, flight crew, and officers. It is not known how the children of the crew factor into this number.
At the time of her inception, the Ishimura was hailed as the savior of Earth and the colonies and the symbol of Mankind's innovation. She was created to mine and smelt entire planets and moons. She was also the first ship capable of the "scan and catch technique" for harvesting mineral-rich asteroids using huge gravity tethers. The Ishimura can lock onto asteroids and pull them inside the ships massive collection bays for smelting.
Despite being designed primarily as a mining vessel, the Ishimura also functioned as a medical research vessel. It had a dedicated medical wing, where research into virology, toxins and genetics was conducted.
Even at 62 years old, the Ishimura was still in remarkable shape. Much of the equipment had been upgraded over the years with many sections refitted to take advantage of modern advances in technology. Despite the long years of service, she was the pride of the fleet and remained the largest planet cracker in the fleet. Whenever a deep space mining project came up and the Ishimura was available, she was the first to be called.
Ishimura means "Rock Village" in Japanese. Its name and the presence of Japanese markings throughout the ship, notably on the ship logo, suggest the Ishimura is a Japanese built ship. The USG prefix and what it stands for is not explained, however when Kendra calls it "Ishimura" Hammond is quick to correct her by saying "the USG Ishimura" and putting emphasis on the G."

The info is taken directly from Dead Space Wikia...i did not type all this.
So basically this is the Largest Planet Cracker ship which means that it "cracks" the planet to mine the materials embedded inside the Planet.
Yes i'm late and i just had a feeling to let fp know about this ship, Which you guys probably already know about it....
ITT: OP is 12
If you played Dead Space, you'd know this. Jesus OP. Why would you make this thread?
Why did you make this thread
'Stone village' makes sense but in my opinion that's a weak-ass name for a ship
ishimura
And now to prove you wrong and shatter your dreams.
A single meteor smashed directly into the hull without even trying, proving that the steel on the outside is easy to breach, therefore rendering the ship highly unsafe on the bottom where it is mostly vacuous anyway. And, even if that didn't happen, the design of the ship in the game loops over itself several times, making it impossible to even make in real life. As well, the gravity tethers and communication link towers were very easy to break, meaning that, again, a single meteor could cut off gravity, comms, or hell, even air. The ship has several OPEN-FIRE BLAST PITS that easily burned Isaac to a crisp even through his armor. The ship was even ILLEGAL, not even allowed to be in the star system it drilled into.
Basically what I'm saying is that Ishimura is fragile, and being a planet cracker does not help because when it drills into the planet, chunks of rock fly everywhere. The ship has a drill on it, but that does not mean it is made for planet cracking.
Well considering it is an old ass ship then yes, it is fragile.
And that you're taking real physics and concepts into a sciencefiction game.

JESUS! Where you people come from?! D:
What.

Fix'r'd.
Wait, the largest, oldest, and most successful Planet Cracker can't crack planets?

It physically shouldn't be able to but it's a goddamn videogame.
Meh, give me an infinite budget and the worlds finest minds and i'll make a ship that'll blow your fucking head off.
You lie.
Mainly, how can it take out that big chunk of planet? Even if it had all the power to do so, and if some superstrong material able to bind the mass to the ship, there is no way that the torn chunk doesn't crumble apart, or better just doesn't leave any kinds of bonds just cut throw it leaving it in place.
The whole design is pretty stupid in my opinion.
What is this?
A+ thread
Wasn't there one mission which was all about getting the asteroid targeting system or something like that back online? That would explain why asteroids could hit the Ishimura.
But yeah, it has it's flaws, but then again it's just a game.
Still I hated the air fire cleaners.

Yeah, Using nanomachines to process the entire planet down into whatever elements you need would be a lot more efficient.
And there's also the ship's crew compliment, At the apparent level of technology in the game (FTL travel, Aforementioned cutting chunks out of the planet) there probably wouldn't be more than 150 people on board the ship at most.
Edit:

The average separation between asteroids is 16 times the distance between Earth and the Moon. The only place you'll find a Hollywood style asteroid belt is around a planet with a ring system. :science:
You guys sound really dumb arguing this.
Well I think it's a pretty neat ship. Which reminds me that we need more good first person spaceship combat games with giant ships like this.

But weren't those asteroids chunks of stone from the planet crack, that could explain their number. Hell, I just leave it's just a game and they just needed some challenge.

Why did you make the thread then?
for some reason, I found it hard to believe that even if a ship could lift huge chunks from a planet how the people on the surface could possibly survive.
I mean, you know wouldn't it kinda... fuck up the atmosphere?
Yeah, I also wondered if it could cause some massive earthquakes, too.

That's a really good question.
I suppose if you lifted it out very slowly the atmosphere just get pushed around it and it would be fine, but if the pulled it out quickly it would most likely leave a whole in the atmosphere that would take a little while to fill
is there any comparisons to ships to the usg ishimura like the uss enterprise or a Imperial destroyer
At the start of the game I kept thinking that all those loose rocks would really do some damage to it, especially if there was nothing on-board capable of operating anything.
What annoyed me about Dead Space is that they had this intriguing story about religions and markers and shit, but none of it was explained well enough or obviously enough in the game. Even reading up on it in Dead Space wikia it's not very coherent. The tech however is really cool, though. The Ishimura's design doesn't really intrigue me though, it's not all that pretty, even in a brutalist way, and it's a mining vessel, quite a few bits of it were really neat though, like the captains nest.
