If this thread is in the wrong forum, I apologize, it was an honest mistake on my behalf. Please move it to the proper section. EVE Online was and is a good MMO, it's constantly expanding and is next to unchallenged in Space MMOs. What would make it better? A first person shooter element that puts it on the ground. Well, CCP thought it necessary to make an MMOFPS for the 360/PS3 that solves this problem. Dust 514 is an MMOFPS that centers around ground combat in the EVE Universe. The game is tied in directly with the MMO. Ground battles in 514 affect the universe in EVE Online, adding a brand new element to the online play, making fleet battles between corps only half of the battle. One downside, though, it uses Microtransactions. Gameplay is said to be like Battlefield, with main ground units(players) outfitted with weaponry(whether there will be kits or a similar weapons system is unknown), and a commander player who can choose support items at the beginning of a round, and then gives orders and commands from a ship above the battlefield(ITT: Griefing if it's destroyable in EVE). Beyond all of the above, there's not much info on 514. I'll be adding more info as soon as it becomes available. Obligatory Trailer Dev Quotes "You're given some interesting choices before the fighting's even started. There are ten vehicle classes, but the commander can only commit five for each battle. We have 15 installation types, and he can only choose five. It's simple, really, like Magic: The Gathering: you prepare your deck and then fight."-Atli Mar Sveinsson, Interview from Kotaku "The most ambitious element is the Eve link," he says. "The other stuff has been proven in other games. Running around with a gun is a proven concept: let's just make it really good. It's when Eve comes in that it becomes special. We're sharing the universe: your basic interface to the world in Dust is even through the same star-map as Eve."--Atli Mar Sveinsson, Interview from Kotaku "Essentially, the Eve players need to control planets," Sveinsson continues. "Planets give them resources and affect sovereignty. So they can issue contracts to win over territory on their behalf: either open-ended contracts for all to accept, or more direct contracts to specific mercenary corporations. You could almost liken it to the setting of a match: I want this kind of player, this kind of skill level. The difference is that it's being handled by players. It's not game designers or server admins setting games in motion or deciding where things should be, it's actual players in Eve, building up their districts and fortifying their areas."--Atli Mar Sveinsson, Interview from Kotaku
MMOFPS for the 360/PC that solves this problem.
Wasn't this on PS3 and 360, not 360 and PC? Wiki says "According to Hilmar Veigar Petursson, the CEO of CCP Games, the game is being developed for the seventh generation of video game consoles."
It is for PC? I thought it was 360 only. [editline]02:35PM[/editline] Dammit Ninja'd
If EVE influences this game, then it works the same in reverse right? That will piss alot people off that play EVE to get away from halo 3-12 year olds, it will also piss them off that there "power" so to speak, will only be half of what it is now, since battles for territory will require both land and space. EDIT: perhaps halo 3-12 year olds isn't the correct wording, what I mean is, now there "uba leet ship skillz" will only be half as effective as before in the grand scope of things.

Also add info from this to op http://kotaku.com/5421328/eve-touches-down-with-dust-514
I think this is PS3/360. Not PC.
I think this is PS3/360. Not PC.
Really? Xbox Magazine has lied to me then. OP is updated to reflect this.
There is no "PC status TBA". This is a console MMO. And this is in the wrong section.
If it's not P2P that would be really nice.
If it's not P2P that would be really nice.
They mentioned micro-transactions I believe.
They mentioned micro-transactions I believe.
Yeah, so far it's going to be micro-transaction based. Wonder just what they'll be selling in order to get the game going and to keep it alive. [editline]04:50PM[/editline]
And this is in the wrong section.
I didn't feel that it fit into the MMO sections, seeing as it's a console MMO that is still in development. However, if I am at error, then I request that a mod move this to the appropriate section.
We have plenty of MMO threads of still in development game in the MMO section.
The concept seems pretty cool tbh, but I'm worried that I'd be sent into suicide missions by the elitist EVE overlords...
We have plenty of MMO threads of still in development game in the MMO section.
Alright, I'm sorry, it was an honest mistake. If a Mod could move the thread, that'd be much appreciated.
I'd hate it if the empires in Eve were able to supercharge their own ground forces with their massive funds, giving them a super advantage within the first week.

I actually made a Dust thread in the MMO section ages ago.
Sounds cool, but not worth paying monthly for me. No thanks.
Sounds like a good way to participate in the EVE universe without all that long term loss of having your best ship blown up and all that. The fact that they're not charging monthly is even better.
Wow, they're not developing for the platform that they started on, and is already shown to make them millions? I don't even have to say the benefits of being on PC. I guess I might have to pick this up for my PS3.
I think it's cool that it' being developed for consoles only
Well, I would have liked to play Dust AND play EVE on my PC
I love the concept behind this. Console-gamer serfs fight for territory at the behest of the PC overlords. :v: [editline]04:25PM[/editline] That said, I wish this were coming to PC, it looks coooool

I remember this thread
Sounds interesting. I wish it would come out for PC though.
