Fuel and Clutch are Horrible in my personal opinion, i been told Dirt 2 is DAMN good, as for Dirt 1 i've no idea.
As i said, its just my Personal Opinion.
i havnt got a DX11 card for dirt 2 but will i be able to run it in DX10 or DX9 (i have a a ATI 4870 1GB DDR5)
Trackmania is good if you don't care about realism
Well personally i don't know, i did a quick search for you, and this is what i found.
Minimum Specifications
OS: Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz, AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Memory: 1GB (2GB for Windows Vista)
HD Space: 10GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon X1500, NVIDIA GeForce 6800
So my guess is yes, im not fully tech savy though im afraid, although i guess someone who is can fill in that small detail. :)
Hope this helps you.
Grid

Thats a good game to, and quite cheap on steam aswell if i recall due to the sales, worth a look.
i already have track mania and grid
grid didnt really cut it for me, the handling was absolutely awful and so was multiplayer

I found it was a tad more realistic, the higher the difficulty and the less driving assits and such, although thats kinda agiven.
Dirt 2 runs smooth on my "semi-old" graphic card. (NVIDIA GeForce 9800 9800 GTX+)
I just played the Dirt 2 demo as my friend suggested it and I liked it so I'm currently downloading that.
Haven't played a rally game for years.
Toca Race Driver 3.
Good fun, quite old but easily worth the £2.99 asking price.
If you don't mind it being very unrealistic, Burnout Paradise.

The crashes on that are pretty funny, and kinda fun and good way to get out anger imo, maybe its just me. :P
does burnout paradise have multiplayer?

Yes, it does.

You could play 20 hours of DiRT 2, you still won't have played a rally game for years =/

You've obviously never played a demolition derby match online then.
GRiD and DiRT 2 are great, FUEL gets HORRIBLY boring in about an hour.

i could never find one, every other race starts like this:
3...
2...
1...
go...
*everyone smashes into each other*
I don't want to divert from the OP's question but I didn't think I should make a new thread.
What good realistic rally games are there? Everyone says Dirt 2 is nowhere near realistic, and I agree, so I want something realistic.
why hasnt anyone said NFS SHIFT??

I've heard the other Colin whatshisname games are pretty damn good for rally.
DiRT 2 is a great game, you should really buy it! As for DiRT.. Well, i really don't think you should buy that. The requirements are low, but they are VERY limited. They've restricted the game to a small range of graphics cards, of which mine is not included so i'm no longer able to play it .. Great game tho.
I always found Flatout to be pretty fun. Especially Ultimate Carnage!
Burnout Paradise, Flat Out 2, Trackmania United
I wish they had NFS U2 on Steam :(
Grid.

There aren't many realistic rally games around. There's Richard Burns Rally, which is considered to be the best rally sim ever made by most, myself included, and it's dirt cheap nowadays. It's not on Steam though, but I highly recommend it.
I think the best racing games I've found on Steam are Race 07 + expansions (Audi R8 + Nordschleife = <3) and Trackmania United. Most arcade racing games have quirks in the physics I just can't get used to. Such as the brakes in Dirt, the lack of a clutch input in Grid and Dirt 2, steering wheel usage in Grid and Dirt 2(feels like my G25's connected to the steering collumn by rubber bands)...
Big rigs over the road racing, hands down.
