RAPE! PILLAGE! SLAUGHTER! Mount & Blade (and it's subsequent expansion Mount & Blade: Warband (Now with added Multiplayerability!) allows you to do none of these, or rather, all of them, bar the raping bit. Many have tried to categorise Mount & Blade into categorical categories, and all of them have doubtless failed or given up and gone back to slaughtering Swadians. The game is split between an RPG-RTS styled 'campaign' map which allows the player to move his/her (let's face it, probably his) Hero and accompanying party around the world of Calradia, travelling hither and thither as he wishes, and a first/third person combat simulation scenario battle war fight thing, where the player takes direct control of his hero (or heroine) to combat foes. Emphasis is placed on mounted combat (it is Mount & Blade after all) and the player is given freedom to wield a bountiful cornucopia of weapons, from axes to javelins, bastard-swords to throwing knives, even rocks! :smug: Furthermore, Mount & Blade: Warband provides certain weapons with different modes of usageness, an example being that with one flick of the button a Javelin is switched from throwy-throwy-ouchy-ouchy style, to pokey-pokey-hold-like-spear! This great variety of weapons (and armour, and cheese!) means the player is given endless possibilities when it comes to dismembering foes, and the various game modes on offer further allow the game to be used almost as a sandbox. Mount & Blade: Warband exclusively offers multi-player action, where up to 64 players can battle online in a variety of game-types, earning money through kills to purchase better weapons, meaning those who do well get better and better, and those who struggle are pounded into dust like the miserable worms they are! Wait, scratch that last bit. A demo of the game is on offer, with a cap at level 6 at which point you must either purchase the full game or start another character (who is then capped at level 6 in a vicious... unrelenting cycle...) Download the demo today! Now since I am getting weary of being original and frankly my ramblings may be proving difficult to comprehend, I will quote our Lord and Master RayvenQ to explain the endless possibilities this game has to offer...
Even when you have bought the full game, you have not seen the full potential of Mount & Blade. The vanilla game is immensely enjoyable, however, the thing that gives the game it's most replayability and addictiveness are the user created mods. Mods are incredibly easy to make for Mount & Blade and the community has wasted no time in creating many mods for the game, ranging from high fantasy, to Roman Europe, to extensions of the vanilla game. Mods are largely a subjective choice, so it is best to look through what is available Here. However there are a few that really help. Graphical Enhancement - Making the game look up to scratch. Battle Size Changer - Allowing the battle size to be increased to up to 1000 men fighting at once, anything more than 200 can make the game prone to crashing however.
Behold the mighty words of wisdom! Quiver as you imagine the innumerable forces at your command! Grumble as you fork out hard-earned cash to pay for this obsession! Frolic as you realise it was SO SO WORTH IT! Go to the Mount & Blade store! BUY! REJOICE! And if you're still not convinced? OGLE! And finally a link to the previous M&B thread which I so shamelessly ripped off: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=909814
I like M&B, but it gets bland after you've gotten a 500+ army. [editline]12:48AM[/editline] It takes ages to get that though.
My limit is currently 115, and growing slowly! I do enjoy taking on huge numbers of enemies though, 600 strong armies and the like
221 Swadian Knights still trampling all over Sarranid territory.
i modded my game, Made it so every village i go to offers between 100-200 recruits, i had such a massive army of recruits and tribesmen i zergrushed everybody.
Its fun when you raid a village with a modded character and only a couple soldiers. They think you're chicken shit and defend themselves, and it turns into 200 villagers vs like 3 guys.. haha fun. I need to buy warband. I played my friend's torrented version (sorry, it isnt mine though) and it kept having some shitty black screen error. But I enjoyed it.
My game is still un-modded, though since I've run into so many problems whilst trying to aid the Vaegir rebels I have resorted to using in-game cheats... a bit
Mowing down villagers is fun :buddy:
