It's one of those indie gems in the vein of VVVVVV that doesn't get the attention that it deserves. To describe Eversion outright would spoil the game's dark little secret. It's a cute platformer developed for The Independent Gaming Source's Commonplace Book Competition where the goal was to create a game based on quotes found from a diary left by H.P. Lovecraft. For you horror buffs out there, that name alone should give you a big clue as to what you're getting into. Without giving much away, Eversion's gimmick is "everting" certain spots that will change the environment so you can progress: bricks might become breakable, plants will lose foliage so they become passable, and clouds become solid and stable. This might sound like your standard puzzler fare but the way these changes are presented are going to surprise you because it affects every single aspect of the game. Eversion HD's debut into Steam will add achievements, a third ending, and support Steam community features such as in-game chat. No price point has been set yet but the developer has been asking for donations starting at $5 at the official site so it's possible to expect a similar price. Just know that if you're going to buy Eversion HD, you're not getting it for the replayability (there's little); rather, you're in it for the experience. Oh, and watch out for the hands.
Oh god yes
Why would this be on steam?! It's like a 8 minute game
I forgot how much fun I had playing this game. Sadly it has very little if any replay value. I hope the 3rd ending fixes that.
Who in their right mind would pay 5$ for that?
people that want the author to have money so he can make more games :D
See what I mean when I say that most indie devs (Not all) make side scrollers I could easily play on Kongregate for free. Now Penumbra on the otherhand, that's something I paid for.
Why would this be on steam?! It's like a 8 minute game
Maybe if you don't bother with unlocking the final level. Or... I dunno, considering the game ended the first time you reach a "fixed scrolling" area? I'm all for hyperbole when used for comedy, but eight minutes? Really?
Took me 8 minutes. And I wasn't attempting to be funny - this game doesn't deserve to be $5.
Well, each person can decide for themselves. The low-definition version is still up at http://zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html.
I'd pay for that extra ending, which seems that I'm going to have to.
Well no they can't.
This isn't possible. There is literally NOTHING in the same vein as VVVVVV. It's just too good.
What does this have to do with Lovecraft?
$5 for what's probably going to only be a 10 minute long pretentious wankfest? No thanks.
What does this have to do with Lovecraft?
Hardly anything. It's related to HP Lovecraft in the way anything dark and out of place is related to HP Lovecraft
It's out now: http://store.steampowered.com/app/33680/
$5 isn't really that much and most $5 games people don't play for more than 10 minutes so eh
