Hello everyone, I have a big problem with questhelper, and that is that it won't work with the older version: 3.2.2 WOTLK. It loads the questhelper, but it won't show any quests. I have tried typing /qh settings & /qh hidden. But that didn't help. I also tried /qh hardreset with no luck... Could anyone link to a working version?
Try and find an older version of QH?
I smell private servers.
Try and find an older version of QH?
I did, but they didn't work. Same problem.
I smell private servers.
-snip- I take back what I said sorry :)
Hmm??? He needs QH for a P-Server where you start with billion of gold and instant lvl 999?
Questhelper is unneeded with 3.3. Yes I know he says 3.2.2 or whatever, private server much-u.

Why would we help someone who plays on a private server?
On a private server, eh? Is making QuestHelper work on private servers really that hard, I mean, I figured out how to make it work on private servers when the QH guys wanted it to stop working in like 5 seconds. (and I'm sure anyone else with ¼ to ½ of a brain also did) Here's the super secret trick to making QH work perfectly on any private server: Step 1: Download the version of QuestHelper for the server you're playing on. (curse is great for this, because they have old versions back to version like negative 0.1) Step 2: Open main.lua in any text editor, search for the word "private" Step 3: Remove the block of text that contains that word. For me, that block of text looked like this: [lua] if not GetCategoryList or not GetQuestLogSpecialItemInfo or not WatchFrame_RemoveObjectiveHandler then QH_fixedmessage(QHText("PRIVATE_SERVER")) QuestHelper_ErrorCatcher_ExplicitError(false, "error id cakbep ten T") QuestHelper = nil return end [/lua] Step 4: Repeat steps 2 and 3, you'll probably find another line of code that looks something like this: [lua]QuestHelper_SeenRealms[GetRealmName()] = true -- some attempt at tracking private servers[/lua] Step 5: That's it, really. It really is that easy to make QH work on private servers. inb4 "people with half to quarter brains already know to pay for the game" edit: or you could probably just Google "questhelper for private servers" I'm sure somebody has put up torrents of this already fixed on some reputable website.
You actually went to all that bother to get questhelper working on a dumb private server?
Went through all of what? Open a file, press Ctrl+F, type the word "private" and remove the blocks of code where it exists? :P Seriously man, that's like saying "you went through the trouble of using your LUNGS when you wanted to breathe?" (and honestly, I play on private servers because it gives a better gameplay experience in my opinion than retail, it has nothing to do with cheapness in my case. When Blizz starts capping servers at about 1000 players per realm, and erasing characters on death to make the game less for pussies, then I'll start paying them for the game again instead of donating to some crazy Czechs)

GG Baddie.
What parrrrky mean is that any form of work for making something work for private servers is wasted.
What parrrrky mean is that any form of work for making something work for private servers is wasted.
I know, but the thing is making it work isn't work, at least not any more work than taking a breath is. (the first time I got the "QH isn't allowed on private servers" error message I just guessed that maybe the code that checks for that was in main.lua, and guessed maybe it uses the word "private" somewhere in there. Removing those blocks of code removed the error message. -----------------
In other words you're shit at WoW and can't level, so you want to level fast and then buy items to make you good. GG Baddie.
Actually, the server I play on has rates at half of Blizzard rates, so leveling takes twice as long, and you get NOTHING for donating other than a sense of doing something good(it isn't one of those private servers where donations get you some kind of reward like most of them are, the reward is that if you help pay the guys electric bill for running a set of servers in his house, they might be left turned on for a longer amount of time). Also, like I said, death is permanent. If you press the release spirit button, your character gets erased, forever, and if you still want to play there you have to start over. The whole point of that is keeping the people who suck OUT of that server. GG, unsuccessful rebuttal :P
hahaha that is so fucking dumb
hahaha youre so fucking dumb
Fixed that for ya buddy. [editline]10:46AM[/editline] Seriously, Solcott, you're so fucking stupid it's almost funny...
I know, sometimes I forget the whole point of Facepunch is to troll people instead of help answer the questions people ask :P But I suppose, what some see as "so fucking dumb" I see as a better gameplay experience, to me, the game having a spirit release button at all instead of instant character deletion on death is so fucking dumb. :-) (probably has something to do with being one of those oldfags who misses playing MUDs with unrestricted PVP like 30 years ago)
That sound's like so much fun
MUDs with unrestricted PVP like 30 years ago)
This pretty much confirmed you being an underage faggot.

(and what the crap does either of our ages have to do with whether or not QuestHelper works for the OP?) EDIT: 48 actually, my wife saw me typing and said "are you retarded or something, you turned 48 in July."

Maybe your wife shouldn't be hovering over your shoulder and should, in fact, be in the kitchen.
My wife runs a restaurant, so she's pretty much always in a kitchen :P Today's her day off though, and I've been alt-tabbing out of WoW with her (our PCs are right next to each other) and doing some message boarding during gryphon flights and whatnot :-)

Don't you know how to read? (see post 13, the not paying issue has already been addressed, I usually donate $50-$75 a month to the server I play on, like I said earlier, my reason for playing on a private server is because it offers me a better version of the game I want to play than Blizzard does)
Fixed! :engleft: [editline]03:53PM[/editline] How it is better than the Blizzard version of the game? 3 reasons, please.
I've already given two of them, but sure I'll give you a third: 1 - Low server population. I don't want to play on a server where there are more than 1000 total players in the realm, the small playerbase let's you kind of get to know everyone in the game, not just a group of guildies. Also, it makes encounters with players more intense (I'll explain later in this post) because seeing a player outside of town is kind of a rare and special occurrence, and you don't know what's going to happen because of it. 2 - Permanent character death. I don't want to play on a server where you are allowed to die more than once. Like I said earlier, this probably has something to do with being "elderly" and getting started with gaming in the late 70's and early 80's playing MUDs and NetHack where pretty much everything was allowed, and if you die once your character get's erased, but for me, if you're allowed to die with no penalty other than a minor inconvenience to me the game is just too easy and forgiving on people who are just plain too bad at the game to be playing it. (yes, I really am saying that if you ever die in World at Warcraft you are too bad at the game and should just quit playing it) 3 - Unrestricted Player vs Player. Blizzard doesn't allow unrestricted PVP, which I want the game to have. I enjoy that every map is marked as contested (including sanctuary areas such as Shatt) and that players within a faction are allowed to attack each other. If a human character wants to kill another human character, why should you stop them? Again, this probably has to do with my elderlyness, but I enjoy the intensity of sneaking through an area, seeing some unfamiliar player who's higher level than me (I'm about 2 and a half years into my character, a 47 Nelf Druid, so there really aren't many above me any more but there still are some) and wondering, "Hmmm, is this guy an asshole who kills players, or is it safe to let this guy see that I'm here? Has he already seen that I'm here and is laying in wait for me to approach like some sort of WoW anglerfish? Maybe he's AFK and I have the opportunity be a player killing asshole and ruin his day. Maybe he's like me and he turns his AFK flag on as bait. etc. etc." The unrestricted PvP creates an extremely intense game, anyone can attack anyone, anywhere, and when you die, pressing the spirit release button erases your character and sends you back to the login screen. I understand that "better" and "worse" are almost completely subjective terms, but to me these are some of the things that make the private server I play on "better" than the official Blizzard servers. To most people those kind of conditions are probably too extreme and would ruin the fun of the game, to myself, and the people who play on the same server as me, conditions less extreme than those are too bland and ruin the fun of the game. When Blizzard caps servers at 1000 players per realm, makes death into death instead of ghost mode, and removes the restrictions of where and between which characters player vs player combat can occur, I'll start paying Blizzard for the game again, but until then, I can get a better version of the game elsewhere.
