GoIO is set in a post-apocalyptic future with steampunk elements, after airships overtook aeroplanes as the dominant air invention sometime around the First World War. In the game, you play the part of a daring Pilot, Engineer or Gunner on your very own ship, select able from six models and customizable with over twelve themed weapons, from flak cannons to flamethrowers to deadly harpoon guns. Not only that, but you can also choose from a huge collection of equipment to use in a number of ways, such as smoke machines, ramming plates, spyglasses and even moonshine! The environments of the game are stunning, complete with huge steampunk ruins, crash sites and forts. All of this is accompanied by a powerful but calming musical score. At the moment, GoIO includes competitive multiplayer with up to 32 players, 4 to each ship, on a number of different maps. In the future, however, Muse plans to introduce a full Adventure mode, where pilots and crews explore and interact with a huge environment and complete quests, similar to an MMO format. As of it's release, players can use Steam microtransactions to purchase cosmetic upgrades for their characters ingame, such as masks, costumes and hats (inb4 TF2), but they have no altering effect on gameplay or the power of ones' airship. I'm a little sad that for such a fun and addictive game, it's relatively empty most of the time, at least compared to some more popular games, so I thought I'd bring this to FP's greater attention. buying. buying now.
I got this during the sale, its quite alot of fun. The first time I piloted a ship, christened the 'Jell-O Pudding' we managed to score a few kills. Its extremely satisfying to watch the other ship drop down in flames.
Some of the guns are extremely satisfying to shoot, especially the Medium Flak Cannon. People like the choose the Manticore because it fires twenty missiles and it looks like it does a lot, when in reality, they're actually pretty much all low-damage. The Medium Flak on the other hand is pure sex when it comes to airship battles. You get burst ammo on that, rip into an enemy Squid... they aren't fixing that.
Strange that both this and AirBuccaneers are releasing just now after all this time. Hard to tell which game will be the better.
