I'm making a mod called Multi-Moron, but I need a coder.
To quote from my last news post...
I said I had a coder, but I didn't expect him to be so lazy and ignorant. He has neglected to do anything since he offered to help, choosing only to role-play in Garry's Mod instead. This means I am now looking for a new, more reliable coder. If anyone is willing to help ASAP, that would be great.
I'm sorry to everyone who recently chose to watch the mod, I can't release a new build until I get a coder to assist me.
If anyone can/will do it, please respond quickly.
Here's a link to the mod: http://www.moddb.com/mods/multi-moron
At least you're not an ideas guy. There should be someone here.

Oh god this. I was entering this thread fully expecting a ideas guy.
I cant code, but there is a retired modder on my friends list. Ill ask him about this for you when he gets on.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Coders are very hard to get; I suggest you start asking around on mod sites.
I was expecting "hurr i wnt to meak an airoplain to go pew pew weee and fwai awl over teh map!!!11!!" but nope!
Also, good luck finding one. I don't think it's gonna be easy to convince any since about every last one I've seen is a stuck-up prick who tries to black mail you with "I has coding skeels, you maust obey me if you don't want to suffer my wrathkidjsdjsl" or "Why should I help you? I'm too busy smelling my own farts. :smug:"
I'm going to borrow a C++ book from my friends mother.
Then take some Hammer tutorials and 3d modelling and animation tutorials.
When I'm done I'll start creating somekind of a alpha for my mod.
Edit: If I have time I'll help you out.
It actually sounds like a good idea, shame I'm busy with other mods atm.
Well, nice to see people are showing interest in helping.
What, exactly is your role in all this?
What, exactly is your role in all this?
I made the mod. I model, texture, and work on most of the configuration files myself. I don't ask much of anyone offering to code. I don't like to burden people who help.
Good luck finding a coder.
Thanks, still waiting.
What exactly is it you need coding?
Also coders are hard to find mostly because it isn't just all C++ but the fact VB costs a fucking ton.
I know a guy named Nori...
Just kidding.
I notice a sudden lack of "idea guys" we can make fun of.
That's both a good thing and a bad thing.
I know a C++ coder that is learning lua, but nothing on the source coder genre.
Well before I release the next build I just need to make tiny basic adjustments, things like weapon damage and effects. Then I'll have tons of other stuff.
Add me on steam (TerabyteST) I know someone who may help you
Well that guy was yet another waste of time. The offer is still valid if anyone is interested. I tried interlopers and they tried to tell me I didn't have any custom content to even look for a team. I'm getting tired of wasting my time with people who refuse to help.
I'd offer, but i dont know anything. Im a mapper though...
Thanks for the interest.

IIRC you can change the weapon damage in the config files. Not sure about the effects, but I thought that they were defined in the configs as well.
IIRC you can change the weapon damage in the config files. Not sure about the effects, but I thought that they were defined in the configs as well.
Yeah, but it doesn't do me a whole lot of good for when I want to add entirely new weapons. That's a huge issue.
I could map if you need it, can't code sadly.
I could map if you need it, can't code sadly.
Thanks a lot, if I have to I'll call on you guys for some maps. Right now I really want to try focusing on coding. I need some custom content or this thing just won't be getting anywhere. Tell me if you know anyone who can that's free.
I wish ideas guys were in higher demand
Hey OP. I'm afraid I'm not a coder either, but I do have a couple suggestions you might find useful.
The first is that, if the coding you need is pretty basic and minimal, it might be worth just learning it yourself. The Valve wiki has tons of support articles for coders, and if you can find a more experienced programmer to help you when you get stuck, that's good too. Interlopers forums are also a good place to get help.
That said, if you want a dedicated coder it's going to be difficult. Coders tend to have their own projects and ideas, and even if they initially show interest will often get bored doing other people's heavy lifting. So the only thing you can do is try to minimize the amount of work the coder has to do, and make sure they're genuinely interested in the mod.
In other words, you have to make your mod look as appealing as possible. That means doing everything BUT the coding and presenting it as well as you can. Looking at your moddb page, there were a few main problems: the first was that the video you supplied was way too dark. For the majority of it I couldn't make out anything except what was silhouetted against the sky. Dark maps are okay when you're doing something moody and atmospheric, but for a goofy mod like yours you should have bright, colorful maps that make it easy to see what you've done. Thanks to your video all I really got was 'sword replaces crowbar, funny sounds, bazooka is painted white for some reason.' Since I have ADD and only read half of the first sentence of your description, I couldn't really tell what you were going for. That's kind of unfair of me, but realize that's how most people are going to react, coders included. You have to win them over with eye candy before they're willing to listen to what you have to say.
Finally, I have some comments on the graphics themselves. They're a little nooby. I of all people realize art is hard, and getting better takes hours and hours of practice, but hopefully this will still help. The main problem is that you're fusing together two very disparate visual styles--your own skins look bright and cartoony, wheras the Half-life stuff is grimy and realistic. This is a challenge we have with my own mod, and there's no easy fix. You basically have to dirty up your own textures to match hl2's look, or create way more custom textures, so you don't have to rely on Valve's. I would suggest the latter, as it will get you more texturing practice and make your mod stand out more.
Even if you do all this, it'll be hard to find a coder. That's the nature of the game, or coders or something (and why I still recommend trying to do it yourself if possible). But it'll help your chances a lot, and most likely get a lot more attention for your mod, regardless. Hope this is helpful, and good luck!

The reason nobody wants ideas guys is that artists and coders are creative people by definition. The desire to give life to our own ideas is what motivates us to learn these skills in the first place. You'd be hard-pressed to find a talented modeler who says 'oh man I am so good at this, if only I had someone to tell me what to model, then I could do something with myself'
[editline]08:50PM[/editline]
Also OP, a couple more things:
I wouldn't be turning down those mapping offers right now. With respect, the map in your video isn't all that nice to look at, and some exciting new maps would add a lot to your mods appeal. You can SEE maps and models. You can't see code. Like I said before, you should be focusing on building up the best set of art assets you can, because that's more likely to attract coders than a few models and a bunch of promises.
Finally, trash-talking your former coder in public doesn't look good. Galactopticon has had several coders, and I can understand the frustration with things not getting done when or how you want them. But you have to realize that these guys are talented people, with their own ideas and things to do, who are taking time out of their lives to help you for free. It's important to recognize that, and if prospective coders get the impression that you won't respect their contributions, they're less likely to want to help you. It's not like they're under any obligation.

Yeah, I started learning Java once I realised this. It's slow going. :saddowns:
OP, I think your time might be well spent having a quick look through the programming forum and thinking about trying the code yourself.
[editline]10:01PM[/editline]
They're really nice and accommodating to beginners, like me.
I think my real problem is I'm rushing myself. I want to get as much done as soon as possible so people don't loose interest. I need to slow down and work on what I can do before I dive into the nitty-gritty stuff. Like you said, there's other things I can be doing that will give more reason for people to want to help out on this. My offer will always be open, but I'm going to try and focus more on the looks rather than how it plays.
On a second note, I've always been the type that asks hardly anything of anyone. If I could I'd do this entire thing by my self, but I have my limits. That's also why I was so upset at the first person, I hadn't asked much of anything at all. Though it was admittedly stupid of me to say such slanderous things of him.
i can code add me on steam nuclearcheerio
