Earlier today, Alien VS Predator was successfully appealed and is now being released in its entirety, here is Sega's statement. "It is with great pleasure that we announce the success of our appeal. We are particularly proud that the game will be released in its original entirety, with no content altered or removed whatsoever. This is a big win for Australian gamers. We applaud the Classification Review Board on making a decision that clearly considers the context of the game, and is in line with the modern expectations of reasonable Australians", Darren Macbeth, Managing Director, SEGA Australia. OFLC report - In the Review Board's opinion the violence depicted in the game can be accommodated within the MA 15+ category as the violent scenes are not prolonged and are interspersed with longer non violent sequences. The violence is fantastical in nature and justified by the context of the game, set in a futuristic science-fiction world, inhabited by aliens and predators. This context serves to lessen its impact. The more contentious violence is randomly generated and is not dependent on player selection of specific moves. All Australians let us rejoice, and kill us some god damn alien scum. Good for you Aussies.
Let's hope this will happen more often and then they'll stop being so nazi about games.
Oh wait? The new one? Well good then.
yESSSSs
Rofl, instead of finally introducing a 18 rating, they give 15 ratings to games who are clearly for adults only
Wish Valve/L4D2 did this, instead of submitting a censored version aswell. Pretty much making their appeal for uncensored version have no chance.
Haha what, i didn't even know it got banned. Ah well i am very thankfull for this.
Well its great news for us.
i don't understand...what's so bad about alien vs. predator that would drive a government to ban it from the market in Australia?
No way I would let a 15 year old play a game clearly designed for adults. Instead I'll be buying it for my 10 year old brother.
Although this is good progress for australia, its not the answer to give a game clearly not suitable for an under 18 rating a 15+ rating just because they dont have a 18+ rating available. Im not that bothered, I mean I think a 15 year old can tell the difference between a video game and reality but... ...how can something like L4D2 be demanded to be censored and pretty much ruined, when you have games such as AvP where you rip humans heads and spines out in first person censor free being released under 15+? (Does look pretty awesome though doesnt it, cant wait) I can just see the wave of angry protestors and parents complaining about it being available to 15 year olds a mile off.
I agree, it's a bit silly that a game as up close and personal as this can go uncensored, but they continue to fuck over Left 4 Dead 2 :saddowns:
I agree, it's a bit silly that a game as up close and personal as this can go uncensored, but they continue to fuck over Left 4 Dead 2 :saddowns:
It's because Valve rolled over and took it, while Sega was all like "Fuck you" and released a statement about governments not letting the people who live there make decisions for themselves.
Dammit now i have started to watch alien, aliens, alien 3, alien resurrection, predator, predator 2, AVP and AVP2, hell I'm up for a marathon.
Skip out resurrection, AvP and AvP2 and you'll be good.
Skip our resurrection, AvP and AvP2 and you'll be good.
I agree, but a marathon is a marathon, so even the bad ones.
It's because Valve rolled over and took it, while Sega was all like "Fuck you" and released a statement about governments not letting the people who live there make decisions for themselves.
Wasn't rebellion who released that statement?
Skip our resurrection, AvP and AvP2 and you'll be good.
Resurrection may be shit, but it beats AVP1 and 2 like they are a redheaded stepchild. The AVP movies were fucking horrible. That's not debateable either by the way.
Wasn't rebellion who released that statement?
I think it was a joint statement from both. either way, good on them for standing up for the Aussie Gamers out there. now they just need to finally pass that 18+ rating and the Aussies will be set.
just starting alien 3.
Dammit now i have started to watch alien, aliens, alien 3, alien resurrection, predator, predator 2, AVP and AVP2, hell I'm up for a marathon.
From best to worst imo Aliens, Predator, Predator 2, Alien, Predator 2, alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, AVP, AVP2
I think it's Alien Vs Predator 1 not the one that will be coming soon.
I think it's Alien Vs Predator 1 not the one that will be coming soon.
no, it isn't. why in god's name would you think that?
I wish they would stop being such pussies about the ratings. How many people saw a 15 when they were 10 - 12? Exactly. How many 15 year olds have seen an 18? Almost every single one. The whole rating system is jacked up, especially in Australia and Germany. [editline]11:14PM[/editline]
Let's hope this will happen more often and then they'll stop being so nazi about games.
The Germans aren't any better. They just outright ban any uncensored violence, pretty much.
Now all we need is a steam pre order.
From best to worst imo Aliens, Predator, Predator 2, Alien, Predator 2, alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, AVP, AVP2
Predator 2 in that list is a lot like the movie itself: it can't quite decide how good it should be. My list would have it under Alien, but whatever. Still a good movie.

I look at that picture and think "There are not that many tubes in a human neck" [editline]02:30AM[/editline] The I look at it again and think "Oh, wait. There are.. They are just misplaced" Take THAT middle school biology :smug: On a more serious note: Good job, Australia! You're taking your first steps to a 18+ rating!
My marathon is over :/
I'd just wish game companies could find ways around this instead of just "watering" it down to the point where half the content is censored. Take 3D Realms for example ; Duke Nukem 3D was censored in Australia on release. 3D Realms altered it, but instead of leaving it as it was, they released a patch for the censored version to unlock the censored content. With this, the government couldn't do anything about it and all Aussies that bought DN3D were happy.
