I'm sure most of you guys remember the golden years of console gaming. The time before these 7th generation beasts when we all played with our beloved PS2, Gamecube and XboX consoles. What makes the 6th generation of consoles so memorable? The answer is simple: Splitscreen
Splitscreen and local multiplayer games. Seriously the game industry is going to the wrong direction, there are close to none games out there these days with a splitscreen game-mode/modes even tough now when games are played on big TV's and have great resolutions wich is perfect for splitscreen but NOOOOO all we get is stupid online play.
I don't want to play online with my console, that's what i use my PC for! I wan't some good ol' fashioned splitscreen with a friend or a group of friends. The magic with console playing is that you can enjoy the games with a friend in the same room and you can experience the game together, have memorabe moments and great fun. The wave of online gaming has ruined console gaming for me, there is close to none games with multiplayer other than online wich has destroyed console gaming in my opinion.
tl:dr I want splitscreen games on consoles, online play is for the PC.
I think PC gaming is going in the wrong way, due to console gaming. Matchmaking on the PC is retarded, a major benefit of PC games is having dedicated servers, it's worked forever and making a new matchmaking system is just terrible.
The multiplayer in RF:G was ruined by matchmaking, if there were dedicated servers my friend and I could just 1v1 until more people joined, but no, we have to wait about an hour and a half just to get enough people in a lobby to actually start a game.
I do sort of agree with you. Online play can be part of the console experience but what set it apart in a big way from the PC experience was how you could just get 4 of your friends to hunker down on a couch and play together, amidst shouts of victory and "Screen Looker!".
"want" not "wan't"
If you want lots of splitscreen/ same screen multiplayer games, Wii is probably the best option.
I would play my PS2 a lot more if I didnt have to pay for a stupid looking device just to be able to plug 4 controllers in.

Yeah, but wii doesn't have so many great shooter/action etc. games that are the best for splitscreen play.

Which is pretty much a tragedy.
There's pleanty of console games with splitscreen on.

wan't isn't a word.
If you guys remember that thread before.
wa'n't is a word though.
Enough with the grammar.
I fear for the future of Gaming in general...

You can probably do the latter with whatever game you were talking about before.

Yeah, true. The problem is that Splitscreen is a dieing trend that shouldnt be dieing in the first place.
Halo 3 has it, Modern Warfare has it, But nothing beats a good game of Timesplitters. But each to their own.

TIMESPLITTERS 2 WAS THE SHIT.
I loved the splitscreen with a friend AND bots. I still remember the days when I came to my friends house to play TS2 on his Gamecube.

Thats what im talking about. :D
You and a friend in one team, All the bots possable in the other. Heres some guns. Shoot them all. Dont let any of them survive. *Evil Grin*
Also Halo 1 was good with just splitscreen.
Splitscreen is infinitely better than online multiplayer.
The newest FIFA game is actually pretty good for playing with friends on the same console. I thought it might be pretty average, but it turned out to be brilliant fun.
Also, to agree with the last few posts, Timesplitters 2 was amazing fun on splitscreen. I had so much fun playing that with different people, especially with such memorable past times as attaching mines to friends' faces and sending them into a horde of enemies to blow everything up.

But Halo didnt have any bots though, :/
(My friend isnt a fan of the Xbox, Ive never played Halo Splitscreen on the original xbox aswell. :P)
My buddy and I usually will play a game online together and use mics to talk. We usually have normal conversation as well as talk about the game so it turns out hella fun.

Halo 1 was a TON of fun in splitscreeen, especially if you hooked 2 together and did a 4v4 on them.
I miss the good old days of playing splitscreen. I always get mad when I find out a game has no splitscreen. They always give some crap excuse about it... It makes me depressed to see splitscreen die.
A fighting game like Soul Calibur is also full of win with a friend. You will never know whats going to happen. I allways have epic moments, and then Epic Phail moments in a friends house.
Heck, when i was young, Me and my friend just took lives in Crash Bandicoot. xD (Gawd i feel old @_@')
Edit: I'll have to commend Resident Evil 5 for its splitscreen Co-op on the main story and merchs, Pretty nice experiance there too.
At least call of duty still supports split screen...
My best friend doesn't have a console, and he always comes over to my house and we play PS3, and you start to notice when instead of both playing at the same time, you're forced to take turns playing online.
There are so many games that would be perfect for splitscreen, but the devs thought it would be a waste of time
Doesn't Borderlands have splitscreen? That would be hella fun if it did.
Halo.

Yeah, my cousin used to make the best maps for that, too.

Halo CE is best console FPS ever, if all console games followed its standard we wouldn't be having this discussion.
More like DLC.
Whenever I hear that I cringe. Pure evil.
