Saints Row 2 has some of the shittiest driving ever

My god it is just awful.
Is there anything I can do to fix it or am I stuck running into trees and the sides of buildings throughout the entire game?
Console or PC?
If it's for PC, the port is horrible and that could be the reason.
Also, GTA4's driving is even worse.
you'll get used to it eventually, afaik there isn't any mods to fix it
you're lucky it even works, it doesn't with windows 7
Get a gamepad or you wont find anything positive in the PC version.

I liked gta4's driving a lot.
But SR2's is awful. You make perfect turns without a need to slow down.

It works with Windows 7 for me (x64)
Also, I agree the driving is horrible. It pretty much ruins the gameplay because you keep crashing yourself into buildings/other traffic.
PhantomNorth, some people have had luck disabling their page file completely, but it doesn't help everyone. It's worth a shot, if you have a good amount of ram. If not, just give up on ever playing Saint's Row 2 successfully. A damn shame, because it is a good game WHEN IT FUCKING WORKS

Hey cool, I just upgraded my ram to 4Gb. Maybe it will run better this time, before I had to lower everything to the lowest and it still ran like shit.

mine runs on 32 bit but everything is sped up alot
I found it was bad because of the choppy framerate making me run into things.
On a computer that can run Crysis on high.
Other than the driving, the game was good.

I have to use cheat engine to slow the game down to a manageable speed here. It's a shame, SR2 is a great game, just shittily ported. The driving isn't bad, it's part of the game's 'fuck it, just have some fucking fun' attitude. It isn't as realistic as GTA4's, or even San Andreas's driving, but it's fun.

lower affinity of cores.
Agreed its crap
What's funny is there are these spots that aren't even lag, if you drive next to them and drift into them, you'll come out 5 seconds later with a 3-gold star, the timer losing time WHILE you're stuck in it, and you being able to see people behind you still driving, not lagging.
You get used to it. It's annoying though.
And I hate it when you're driving and suddenly your FPS goes down to 3 and you crash. :argh:
Odd, while the driving is very arcadey I thought it was fairly easy, after coming from GTA4s style of driving I found SR2 driving hard for the first few hours, game ran pretty flawlessly.
Expect however for one fatal problem I have with SR, which is: display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
I suppose it could be worse, people don't often recover from this error it seems, (to date I have never not recovered from it) which ends up blue screening them.
After googleing the fuck out of it, I came to the conclusion that it's a lost cause, so many people have a fix for it, but it doesn't work for someone else, that person has a fix, but it's not even remotely close to fixing someone else problem. The few people I found that had some good knowledge of computers told me that kind of error has been around for a very long time, and no one has ever found what actually causes (as it's different for every person) and very hard to track down the source of the problem.
The most common problem is that the card itself is faulty, I thought that could be it, but up to that point I never got that error, and I haven't in any other game since then, only SR2.
Incase any are wondering what happens when you get that error I'll explain.
For myself: I would be playing SR2, and at random times the game would freeze for about 5 seconds, the sound would still work (and not freeze), I could still talk to people in vent, but my computer pretty much locked up, then after that the game would continue and it would give me the error I posted above.
For many others: It's the same thing, expect they don't recover and get BSOD'ed, from what I read, it appears that in the process of recovering the computer basically restarts all of it's functions without ending them (otherwise it would just turn off and the game would close, the equivalent of restarting your computer I think) and the CPU and graphics card can't handle this strain and BSOD. It seems I recover due to having a good CPU (i7 920) and a good card (4870 X2) that can manage the strain.
At least that's what I read about it. Regardless it's the only game I have ever played in my life that has given me that error, so after beating it I un-installed and won't go back. Which is a shame cause I liked playing co-op.
Adjust your horizontal sensivity in the controls.
Problem fixed!
After playing quite a while, I'm kind of used to it, but it's still really wonky and hard to maneuver in most of the cars.

How the fuck is that awful? I find being able to make turns with ease to be very nice and lets me focus on shooting instead of turning like I'm on slippery ice.

Bikes on GTA4 > Everything that has wheels and an engine in SR2
yes I know it's fucking terrible

Usually, you can't make turns easily while going 90 mph. It's realistic. Also, the driving in GTA4 is fine, I can pull off headshots on oncoming police men while going fast, you need to get used to it and not expect to make turns that defy gravity.

Are you joking? GTA4's driving is fine!

SR2 isn't exactly a "realistic" game
it's a fun game, not realistic but fun. You'll get used to it
Games are not supposed to be realistic.
And SR2 is fun once you get used to the crappy PC controlls. You're better off getting the console version if you do have a console though.
Eh, SR2 got insanely fucking boring after I finished the main story. Haven't touched it since.

GTA4's driving is great.
PC port of Saint's Row 2 is properly awful, I mean seriously. Goes to full speed straight away, and the slightest turn gets you facing the wrong way
Yeah, the driving is probably the worst driving mechanics ever in a game. The cars go up to max speed in like 2 seconds and just slightly pressing one of the buttons to make a turn pretty much rotates the whole car in a perfect 45 degrees angle. That's why I mainly used taxis (which also happen to be bugged the fuck up) and sprinted everywhere with infinite sprint enabled.
And the driving GTA4 was probably the most fun I've had driving cars in a game. Comparing the driving in GTA4 and in SR2 is like comparing Big Rigs to... uh... something good.
Saints Row 2 has more arcade driving, and GTA 4 has more real like driving.
