Okay so, I really liked how in Star Wars Galaxies, you could actually walk in your own spaceship that you bought. You could also repair specific parts of the ship with the respective consoles on the walls. (one near the engine, wings, etc)
I've never seen anything like it, so I ask this question:
Is there a space game where you can actually walk in your own ship and repair your ship from the inside?
I know Garry's Mod could be one, but it's a little glitchy, especially at high speeds. (you bounce around alot from what I've heard)
Eve online
Thanks! I'll take a look at reviews and gameplay.
Any others?
Correct me if i am wrong but you can't walk around in orbiter.
Nor can you in Eve.
Wow, I like the picture, Thank you. But is it multiplayer? I think a friend of mine played that, and he said the missions took too long. idk, I'll ask him if this was it.
Also, I looked at a few Eve online reviews and trailers. I liked what I saw, but I didn't see any references to the inside of ships. The closest was inside a space station.
I'm glad I'm getting replies so quickly. Is there any others?
EDIT: thanks to the people who actually played the game who confirmed the ability not to walk around.
You can't walk around in X3 but it's a really deep simulator? You have to buy components for your ships and stuff. Basic idea is you become a monopoly by getting trading ships and getting them to trade for you while you amass monies and buy stations to fabricate goods to sell then you can buy a massive ship or 5 and go dominate the universe from the comfort of a massive carrier. It's epic.
Also in Star Trek Online I think you can walk around? I dunno I know you can go on the surface of planets and such.
mass efect hurr :downs:
Not sure, actually..
Eve is like WoW in space with ships.
But more expensive and time consuming
The virtual voyager expansion for Star Trek: Elite Force had this. You got to be a captain doing day to day stuff in the ship.

I'll have to look for reviews for this X3 game aswell as Star Trek Online. Sounds interesting.
So Luxinus, you say you could walk around in your ship in Star Trek Online? That makes 2 games. I wonder why this isn't a popular mechanic in space games.
EDIT: I just looked for X3, I found 2. Terran Conflict and Reunion. Which one are you talking about? Or both.
Anyway, any others?

I've heard it takes days to build single ships.
If you don't mind ASCII graphics, there's a game called Ascii Sector, which does let you move around in your ship. Additionally, you can land on a planet, where you can buy new ships, buy parts for your ship, get missions, and buy weapons with which you can use to fight on the ground, or on an enemy ship which you can board in space. You can also trade, if cargo runs suit your fancy. There's more to it, that's just some of the basics to it, here's a link: http://www.asciisector.net/

Yeah, a lot of EVE stuff is time-based. For instance, you don't go out and grind to skill up, you set a skill to go up, and it will go up another level in a certain amount of time, some taking months.

X3: Terran Conflict is Reunion's sequel, and is better in every way.
But if you have a short attention span, none of the games suggested so far will appeal to you.

I'm surprised. A game where it "literally" takes forever to level up.

Also, I looked at Star Trek Online, and I got to say, it looks good. I've never been a Star Trek fan personally, but from what it looks like, you can be a captain of your own friends? And go on adventures with them? Now that's sounds fun. I'll have to look into this Star Trek Online. Thanks for listing Star Trek Online.
Seriously, Virtual Voyager for Elite Force sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

I think I remember seeing X3 Terran Conflict. It's on Steam for $20.
Well, the Star Trek Online looked interesting. Also, Ascii Sector looked WAY out of it's time. I can see alot of gameplay in it.

Okay, so I looked into it, and the graphics for the game in 2001 were alittle poor. The gameplay looks interesting, and the ability to play with bots in multiplayer is not as often seen in even today's games. I see no free roaming involved though, which was what I was looking for.
In Eve Online it takes like a year to build the best ship in the game.. thats what I was told by someone who played it.

Then somone who already has that ship could blow it up at anytime during the building process.

(off topic) So basically, only one person at anytime can have that one ship? It's probably a GameMaster (GM), if there are any GM's in that game.

there is an experimental multiplayer if i am correct. The author has stopped working on the game, though. There are betas, but I don't know if they are official. people still create addons for the game

We are off topic but I was just saying that if someone wanted to they could use the year-long ship to destroy the other players dreams of getting the year-long ship by waiting until they are 1-2 days/weeks/months away from getting it and just fucking it up hardcore.

Goons sabotaged an enemies Titan-mid construction I think, or did they hit it once it had completed?

I still haven't got a reply from that friend of mine, but this game looks great for an astronomy class.
(off topic) I'll have to recommend it to the teacher if I find one. :P
For a sure Simulator, X3:TC.
For strait up goodness, EVE online.
For RTS, Homeworld 1, 2 and cataclysm.

X3:TC does look interesting.
I dont know about EVE online, I've seen a few bad reviews here and then about it being boring, but that's just a small amount of people, right?
I've played Homeworld 2, feels alot like Star Wars: Empire at War.
Thanks for the list, any more from anyone?
