Yes, that's right. Hover Tanks. Explosions. Awesomeness. Metal Drift has it all, and you can win a free copy, courtesies of ME. But before we get to the giveaway, perhaps you ought to know a little about the game, hmm? Welcome to the arena. You have two objectives: score as many goals by carrying a ball to the opponents' side, and BLOW THEM UP. Metal Drift is an indie game running on the Torque engine (Blockland, Instant Action, etc.) available on Steam. Personally, I am in love - LOVE - with this game. You need to play it to understand what I'm talking about, but trust me - very few games manage to capture a sense of pure thrill and action so well. The basic mechanics are simple: two teams square off in maneuverable hover-tanks, attempting to carry a ball to their opponents goal area. Something like soccer, or football for all you non-Americans. Of course, that wouldn't be very exciting in and of itself, right? So that's why you have a giant gun strapped to you. Oh yes, it is very awesome. On top of this, an energy system forces you to think strategically. Don't worry - you can use that cannon as much as you like. But with every bit of damage you cause, a chunk of energy is added to a bar at the bottom of your Tank's HUD. This energy can be used to go really fast, or to power up your gun even further and make your enemies piles of smoking rubble. And there's a leveling system. What game would be great without one, right? :v: Every kill you make, every goal you score, every match you win - most events add a number of points to your level. When you reach a sufficient number of points, you level up. Every three levels, you gain an additional weapon, or a new ability. Abilities. Another important part of Metal Drift's winning recipe. Every power can be likened to a class, if you will - there's a power to heal you and your teammates, a power to make you able to soak up lots of damage, a power to teleport directly to the ball, a power to turn invisible... and then some. Perhaps you ought to see this in action... So all you've heard me say are good things so far, right? Well, unfortunately, this game has one massive flaw... no one's playing! Occasionally, you'll find the devs online, or some dedicated players, and there's always bots, but this game is currently on life support. So the game needs you! There's a wonderful demo available - you can access one map and up to level 15, as well as play online on specific demo servers. There's no downside to not trying it, and I have a very good reason why you should try it... Which brings me to THE GIVEAWAY. In order to attempt to reel in a few more players, I intend to giveaway five copies of the game. Depending on this giveaway's success, there may even be more... we'll have to see. So how will the winners be decided? I had a hard time deciding on this. Right now I'm open to suggestions, but currently, whoever has the most demo play time by Christmas day at 12:00 in the afternoon EST will be the winner. Same goes for the next top four play times. Now for some Q&A. Q: PostmanX3, you sound like you really enjoy this game. A: DAMN RIGHT I DO. Q: Won't people be able to turn the game on and leave it there to increase demo play times? A: Unfortunately, yes. Which is why I'm taking suggestions. (Absurdly large amounts of play time will be ignored, by the way.) Q: Did you say more copies after the five? A: Yep. I'm not going to guarantee anything just yet, I hope to offer a few more copies afterward. A note: The game is on sale for 50% off due to the holiday sale! Even if you don't win, please, please, PLEASE take a look, at least. NOW GET OUT THERE AND BLOW SOME SHIT UP!
I remember this game. There's no way I can win the giveaway though :sigh: When I play the demo half the textures are black and changing texture options does nothing.
Seems like smashball in a car, so it would probably be shit.
Seems like smashball in a car, so it would probably be shit.
That's a horrible point.
Seems like smashball in a car, so it would probably be shit.
Try. The. Demo. (Nothing like Smashball, really.)
I'll give it a shot, looks like a playstation game I used to play. :v: I didn't think steam picked up demo game play.
Download it now.
Sounds like a good way to give away copies. It should be easy to see who enjoyed the game and who faked their times too.
Battlezone 3? is that you?
Demo is exactly what I expected. Shit.
Demo is exactly what I expected. Shit.
Don't like it, don't play it. Your loss.
I'm gonna buy this while it's 1/2 price, it looks great.
It is half price.
Looks pretty neat, but why the fuck is the HUD so cluttered?
I remember this game. There's no way I can win the giveaway though :sigh: When I play the demo half the textures are black and changing texture options does nothing.
Turn off AA in your Nvidia/ATI GFX panel or set your GFX to low. The reason why is because Dynamic Lighting and AA can not be on at the same time because of the current DX being used. Hope to see you guys in game =D
Don't like it, don't play it. Your loss.
Not his loss cause he didn't like it to begin with :downs: I'll try it, see if I like it my self
So far I have one applicant. He's going to get the game, almost certainly. Surely someone must want a free copy! [editline]01:06PM[/editline] Scratch that, two applicants.
Sure why not.
Sign me up. Installing the demo now. Aw Steam's servers are too busy at the moment. I'll have to get it a bit later.
Also sign me up.
The bots are ridiculous. They just rape you with their high-level weapons while you're sitting there with your shitty little laser pistol.
The bots are ridiculous. They just rape you with their high-level weapons while you're sitting there with your shitty little laser pistol.
The weapons are all balanced, no one is necessarily better than the other. The weapon you start with is, ironically, probably one of the hardest to use, though. Generally, try to trail enemies, rather than meeting them head on. They'll be unable to turn around and you can blast away. Secondly, stay away from anything that looks like it may be mounted with a chaingun. Trust me. Also, it takes some practice to get used to piloting the tank. It's not like a normal FPS with strafe and such, you've got to learn to drift. (Thus the title.) [editline]02:35PM[/editline] Alright, now that I'm actually getting some people interested, add "postmanmanman" to your friends so that I don't have to go digging through the thread. :v:
This game is awesome, more people need to do this contest, now!
Damn I love this game already. At first I was just thinking "Cool free game" but if I had the money I probably would buy it. Hopefully you get enough people interested to give this game a big community.
While I applaud the idea, I felt I found this thread too late to participate. Having said that, postmanX3's posts about Metal Drift have had me considering the game for a while. I didn't like competition with the bots so I decided against it. But if there are people active in multiplayer, it's worth my money, and at only £3.99 during the sale, I just paid for it. :v:
While I applaud the idea, I felt I found this thread too late to participate.
Everyone else just seems to have found the thread now, too. YOU STILL HAVE A CHANCE! GO GET 'EM!
Just installed the demo.. See how much I can play..
It's just 6 bucks. I might just buy it.
It's just 6 bucks. I might just buy it.
If you like the game, go ahead. It'll mean I'll have more copies to give away to people who can't buy it.
How many levels can you go up in the demo! I am currently on level 7!
