My roommate and I have been playing Advance wars for the game boy advance and was wonder if anyone would know what PC game would be the most equivalent?
I don't think there's anything like it out there, but I believe the army men series had a strategy game that was similiar. I'm not too sure though, as I never played it.
Nope, none. There is an Advance Wars "port" onto PC that is fanmade, but it's shit, and i forgot what it was called.
I don't think Army Men is turn based.
Do none of you play on Kongregate?

There are two expansions as well, look for them there.
Battle for Wesnoth is a decent turn-based RTS. Has the grid, but it's hex shaped.

What the hell.
Spartans are overpowered. I stopped playing after the secret mission.
The closest I can think of to the same scale that Advance Wars tries to portray would be the old classic Panzer General series. It's hex-based, with each individual unit representing a battalion. It probably won't run on a modern system unless you're playing the latest game People's General.
I also recommend the Steel Panthers series. Like Panzer General it uses hexes, but the gameplay is incredibly complex (concepts like armor penetration, suppression and morale are used). It's still a good strategy game if you can stomach it.
Heroes series is good but is not straight up tactics.
