I've been looking into MineCraft recently and I can't help but notice that there is an excessive amount of negativity appearing around it. Many people have gotten bored of playing it. Plenty of others aren't happy with the latest updates added to the game. And there's a huge amount of rage for Notch's performance at Mojang.
So I don't know, I wanted to make a gamemode for MineCraft with the API was released but if the minecraft community dies before then it would be completely pointless.
Don't hate me for talking about something I'm worried about.
there are more people playing the game
which means more people criticizing it
the numbers indicate that the minecraft community is still growing quickly so it is definitely not dying at this moment

Well that's good to hear, but I fear that Notch isn't capable of properly designing this game to work in the future, he doesn't appear very confident to be honest.
this is the guy that made ten million dollars from a $15 java game

we are talking about the same person, right?

what do you mean?
he still has tons of ideas for the next year although i can see that long term the future might be sketchy since notch seems to add and work on things on impulse and whim rather than hard planning and timelines
this game is currently not dying although it may have a limited lifespan, like any other game
and i don't doubt that even after this game starts declining that there will be a very large group of people still dedicated to it for years to come

If it wasn't for SeaNanners, that might not have happened.
Call me crazy, but there's a chance that this thing may be headed downhill. You guys might not like that, but you're in the MineCraft forums, of course you wouldn't want to say that. This is where I worry.

imo it's not going downhill in a long time
Usually in a large community, the dissatisfied people are the loudest (hence that "excessive amount of negativity appearing around it" as you put it). The people who are content with the game usually stay quiet and keep playing the game.
Simple Answer:No it is not on it's way out.
Long Answer: More players=More criticism. Anyways, more players.
What gamemode idea do you have in mind?
Still two short answers. Meh.

i personally dont care if the game starts declining, il play it till i get bored of it regardless
i see no sign of halt right now, in fact it is in a really strong growth period, its won numerous awards, its population is growing at a strong rate, and notch is adding quite a few good upgrades to the game
hell the game isnt even completed yet and its still one of the number one games out right now
what is your indication that the game is going downhill besides wild speculation?

Good point... kinda relieving in a way.
And stop rating me dumb god dammit nobody else addressed this anywhere on the web and it's a completely valid thing to bring up IMO.
Lazy Notch
imo it's not going downhill in a long time
before it can go downhill that growth needs to begin to level off and there is currently no sign of that happening anytime soon
saza is correct

it would be more valid if you had an actual reason or data to point to besides some anecdotal evidence from a few loudmouth critics

Statistics.
"Sup Everybody! COD4 is Awesome" was printed on my school's morning announcement broadcast. I asked the guy next to me, "What's COD4?" He explained it and how amazing it was, the graphics and gameplay and storyline... and I was dumb enough to listen to him.
Nearly 4 years later, I seriously regret spending $60 on that game.
Now, I'm not comparing MineCraft to COD4, but I know you gamers. You don't listen to your own opinions, you listen to everybody else. MineCraft is a good game, it's unique and beautiful, but some of us might not be as happy with the latest updates as we might think. And I can see us, maybe in a year, making "MineCraft was overrated" jokes, because it's happened time after time again.

How does that story have to do with us not going with our opinions? If we like a game, we like it. And we will rave about it too.
So what you didn't like it? Maybe you should've gotten more of an unbiased opinion. Maybe, visit a review site. Could've saved you $60 and a dumb story with a shitty moral to it.

If you think seananners matters, you're mistaken. The entire Minecraft community made the game what it is today. Seananners just picked up some new people. I'm confident that most of his views are from people within the MC community.
But that's my opinion.

Any review site would've told me to buy it at the time. It was THE GAME TO BUY.
And it's not a shitty moral. I play MineCraft like the next guy.
Even outside of the MineCraft forums, on FacePunch, I'm finding plenty of hate. Do not underestimate this.
This does not mean that we should discourage MineCraft's development, nor jump to conclusions. It simply means WE SHOULD EXPECT THE WORST AS IT IS POSSIBLE.

I doubt 1 person could really discourage a development team that has sold over a million copies of a game in beta.

talking about whether the upgrades are good or not is hard because it is purely subjective
metacritic is probably the best source for that since it averages the reviews of many different websites for its data but it doesnt have a metascore yet since no one has really reviewed it(except its 9.2 from 45 user reviews)
we can only look at the numbers, which indicate the game is exploding with growth

we should only expect the worst if it is a good possibility
its not, the game has a very low chance of crashing right now and any time in the foreseeable future

Seananners did not make Minecraft popular and I really really hate the fact that people keep saying he is the sole cause of the game's sale increase.
Just to kind of give some support of it not going out, I am a "closet" gamer. How videogames are looked down upon by "society", isn't here with minecraft. I know people of all "cliques" that play it. It is a total game that is enjoyed by people from every group.

That and "oh if Seananners didn't _______ in Minecraft, Minecraft wouldn't be popular"
It's not a valid excuse because it did happen, there is no "oh well if ____ didn't do_____ then ______ wouldn't be so _____"
Just to kind of give some support of it not going out, I am a "closet" gamer. How videogames are looked down upon by "society", isn't here with minecraft. I know people of all "cliques" that play it. It is a total game that is enjoyed by people from every group.
I agree.
But I seriously think that humans are dependent on agreeing with one another. I really do think that the element of "that person thought this game was amazing, so it must be" had a huge impact on MineCraft's success. Whereas we might not be those people, they are out there. The question is how many.

Also even if Minecraft's popularity flat-lines on the PC/Mac I am sure a Mobile/Console release would fix that.
I just think Notch should consider a new game to make at Mojang.
In case.
And I don't think I deserve to be given dumbs for voicing a valid perspective. I respect your opinion, please respect mine.
www.scrolls.com
Yes. I know about scrolls, but what I meant is a game similar to MineCraft. A 3D game, it could be anything. I remember reading somewhere that Notch didn't expect scrolls to be something that all MineCrafters would enjoy.
I really do not want to watch this guy fail. That would rough on him. And he's showing signs of fear of failure. His procrastination, his stress... sure, it's normal to be stressed when you're suddenly leading a multi-million dollar project, but something tells me he doesn't have the confidence to get through this.
