Basically what it says in the title. I was about to download the demo for Torchlight, so I click "Download Demo". Nothing happens.
I then tried to download the demo of another game, Trine, but again, clicking "Download Demo" does nothing.
Using firefox this time, I click "download demo", but firefox pops up with a display message saying "the protocol (steam) isn't associated with any program". I've already tried repairing my installation but it did nothing.
Also, you know when you right click on the steam icon in the taskbar to bring up a quick select menu? Clicking any of the choices there does nothing.
Can someone help me with this? Reinstalling doesn't help.
Also, I have steam.
Done, with moving steamapps out and reinstalling, but to no avail. :saddowns:
i have the same problem, i have reinstalled and it still doesn't work :saddowns:
this is really starting to piss me off, my friend just sent me a gift and i can't click "open my gift" to get the game
This happens to me also.
does anybody know how to fix this? I have already submitted this to steam support, but damn this is annoying.

Damn, that really sucks.
chainsaw, is there any solution?
you running 64bit vista?
if so, you haft to move the steam folder to the 64bit program files folder (it's the one Without the (x86) next to it), I was having the same problem and that fixed it for me.
Here's what I do.
First, open run. Then type
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" steam://install/<id of demo/mod>
It should open the steam installer thing.
EDIT: Also chainsaw, I believe you can use this method to receive gifts.
I don't run 64bit. I have no idea what the problem is. Probably has something to do with program associations, but there is no "Steam" program in the program associations list.
I assume your computer is fully upgraded using Windows Update?
Yes, but there have been some problems with my computer lately such as my settings in control panel not saving, etc. I think this is just a My Documents fault or something.
