when i start gmod it comes up with a window called bootil and says !steamremotestorage any ideas?
You have to delete steam and your Facepunch account
yeah ok, im not that stupid. ive tried reinstalling steam but that didn't work.

yes i do harry and has no addons. it also the only steam game i have so no extra textures or models.

Yes ive tried reinstalling (twice) verifying game cache, deleting the garrys mod folder, deleting registry.blob but nothing has worked. I also have all the source sdks installed.

Sorry sam za nemesis but that didnt work unless i did it wrong. i clicked steam\setting\download+cloud and unchecked steam cloud synchronization. but thanks anyway for trying to help.
also tried downloading team fortress 2 and then running gmod but still hasn't worked...
You are using Windows 8 aren't you?
I saw another person having the same problem using Windows 8, maybe that's the problem
