It is especially designed to mess with your senses and creep the heck out of your rather than use shock tactics. I personally haven't played it because I'm too much of a wuss, although I have watched the cutscenes and storyline. From what most people tell, the gameplay is basic. You can only shoot while standing still, so while you're gunning your enemies down, they can still reach you pretty quickly if you don't consider how much ammo to waste on them. The inventory system is also similar to Resident Evils. The first of the series, in the original Silent Hill, you play as Harry Mason, a father who loses his daughter, Cheryl, inside Silent Hill. Yadayada he goes to find her and freaky shit unveals itself. End of story. This one carries our dearly beloved Pyramid Head, a sex demon who rapes other weird shit and nurses. The protagonist is known as James Sunderland, who receives a letter from his supposedly 'dead wife' telling him she's waiting for him in their 'special place'. This draws him to Silent Hill. Pyramid Head and the demons of Silent Hill are made from his repressed sexual desires and needs, cause she was sick they couldn't have sex. And some of them are manifestations of James' second thoughts of remaining faithful to Mary. This one lacks Pyramid Head and heads for a more religious theme. Heather heads for Silent Hill in an attempt to uncover the mysteries of her long lost past, including links to the haunted town. She eventually discovers a demented cult that believes in a so called 'God'. The protagonist of this one is Henry Townshend, who strangely finds his apartment door bolted and locked shut. This obviously means he has no way of escape, until a weird hole eventually shows up in his bathroom wall. He passes through the hole into various areas where he meets a different person each time. He eventually meets a woman called Eileen Galvin with who he becomes strongly attached to. Doesn't feature the usual hell environment as commonly as the last 3 games. Also hiding in dressers. Shattered Memories is less of a remake and more of a reimagining of the original Silent Hill. The story is essentially the same as Silent Hill too, however the characters have been slightly altered. Yet again, you play as Harry Mason, a father who loses his daughter Cheryl, inside Silent Hill. Yadayada he goes to find her and freaky shit unveals itself in a much colder setting. End of story. Guys, not trying to backseat, but weren't moderators supposed to change a title if they deemed it to be a megathread?
Not from my memory, I always assumed Megathread meant lots of info included with the OP.
Original is still my favourite.
I'll a better one for you tomorrow.
I really want to play this game, but I played the third one for like an hour and got weirded out. Not to mention the fact that I'm horrible at Survival Horror.
Am I the only one who liked the 4rth game?I remember when I first rent Silent hill 2,great game.
I like them all except Homecoming (which, I will still buy to complete my collection) and I only sorta like Oranges.
Homecoming actually looks like a decent game if you cut out the wannabe silent hill part of it.
I thought Homecoming was great, just not as great as the other Silent Hills. You should post something Shattered Memories.
I've only played the original. Started the second one but never really got far into it.
Missing shattered memories :aaa:
I'll add shattered memories when I get home tomorrow. It's late now and I'm on this subpar laptop so I can't really add much.
For those of you that don't know, Silent Hill was based on a real location: Centralia, Pennsylvania. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/78/Pa61_centralia.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pdr_1647.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e8/Cent_46.JPG/800px-Cent_46.JPG http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/80/Censign.jpg/624px-Censign.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b9/Centralia_wafting.png/800px-Centralia_wafting.png It was a small mining community with over 2,000 residents that was settled in the 1800's and lasted until 1962, when the fire department did their yearly burning of the garbage dump, which was situated in an unused mine. They didn't properly put the fire out, and it continued to smolder until eventually a vein of coal was ignited. It started a huge underground fire that created dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in the town. In 1984, Congress paid $42 million for evacuation of the residents. Only a few families stayed. In 1992, the entire town was condemned and the zip code was revoked. By 2004 only 18 residents remained in Centralia. The town has fallen into ruin and has been mostly forgotten. The only route into Centralia, Pennsylvania Route 61, has been blocked off (first pic). The coal fires still burn today.
I thought there were a bunch of places it was based off of.
Gonna get 1 on PSN. 2 is awesome, though I prefer 3's gameplay, and 3 was, to most fans, the last true installment of the series. 4 has a nice creepy story, but the gameplay is frustrating as hell. Homecoming is surprisingly good, but still much too focused on action rather than story and scariness. Haven't played Origins or Shattered Memories. I'll miss Amaoka. His music is amazing and made half the experience of the games.
Silent Hill is deep down, my most fucking favorite game series ever.
I love the SH series. The 4th one was good, but I hated having to play through the same levels again. You have no idea how happy and relieved I was when I beat it.
Yeah, I'm at the part where you're about to go through the same levels. But I know I'll have a feeling of accomplishment after beating it. Also SH: 2 was my first Xbox Game (Not 360, but the Original Xbox)
I played SH2, SH3, SH4 and Homecoming. I liked SH2 the most. SH3 was also really great, but I still liked SH2 a bit more. SH4 had a nice idea and everything, but the main character did not seem interesting one bit and the gameplay in SH4 was just pure horrible, I couldn't even stand to play it more than to pass the first few areas. Homecoming was also pretty good, it definitely didn't have the Silent Hill atmosphere, it wasn't as scary as the previous ones and the storyline wasn't as interesting, but it was still Silent Hill and I really liked it.
I've never played a Silent Hill game in my life. I probably should, one of these days.
Why the fuck did this thread go to page 2 and the shitty no-content one stay up?
Updated OP with Shattered Memories like you asked
I just got Shattered Memories, haven't had a chance to play it yet.
Woah, shattered memories is out now?
It's only been out since the 8th, so don't worry about being late.
I started and beat shattered memories, I am putting it up with Silent Hill 2 on my list. The one good thing about it is they removed the entire cult and leave why Silent Hill does this blank.

Not really, ssa gib A, I loved the Silent Hill 4 gameplay there wasn't really anything horrible about it. I know its not others most favorite Silent Hill game, but its mine. I mean, I still love all the other Silent Hill games.
