Hey guys, need a little help over here.
I live in Australia and we have monthly limits on downloads. Basically means you can only download a certain amount of GBs per month before your speed gets slowed to something ridiculous like 4kb/s. I'm switching to a new computer, and I don't want to have to download all my steam games again (it would use up all of my monthly limit and more.) This is what I've done so far:
1) Put my steamapps folder onto my iPod (I don't have an external hard drive).
2) Installed Steam onto the new computer.
3) Copied the steamapps folder into the Steam folder on the new computer.
When I start up steam, my games are shown as uninstalled. What should I do? Do I click download and let it figure out that the files are already there? Will it download them anyway?
Help would be appreciated :)
PS: I considered putting this in the "Quick Threads" category but since this is specifically a Valve-related question I put it here.
They should be in C:/Program Files/Steam
So it will look like C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/
Do NOT put them in C:/Program Files/Steam/steam

That's where I have them :)
Install Steam on the new computer's hard drive, put the old hard drive in the new computer, and copy it.
Should I click install and see what happens?
I'm just worried about it overwriting the copied files.
Steam Cloud stores all your data anyway, so when you re-install a game it installs your previous settings before un-installing it.
Have you re-started Steam?
Was Steam open when you transfered the folders/files?

I have just restarted Steam and now it says that the download is at 65%. I'm "verifying the game cache" at the moment, hopefully that will remind it that the files are already there :P
Right click one of the games and hit back up game. Than make a folder and put it on a external hard drive and transfer it.
