What the hell is Supreme Commander?
Supreme Commander is a game where you play as a supreme commander of an army, you can build planes, ships, ground vehicles and more to beat your opponment. There are 3 factions.
FACTIONS

The United Earth Federation are the "core human" faction, representing the natural technological evolution of modern human technology. The UEF seek to unify the once great Empire that is now splintered. They are in combat with the Cybran Nation and the Aeon Illuminate. UEF military is more conventional-styled than the others, relying on "classic" weaponry like battle tanks and projectile weapons such as bullets and explosives.
Its weapon choice usually makes UEF units to be of limited efficiency against moving targets, as projectiles aren't too good at tracking targets, but their sheer power can do serious damage to structures and slow-moving units. Also, UEF units tend to be more heavily armored.

The Cybrans are the 2nd faction in Supreme Commander. They are fighting for their independence, after many years of enslavement by the Earth Forces. Cybran units are often insect-like in appearance, and known for being extremely versatile: from assault bots which can repair other units to walking destroyers, a good Cybran player can adapt quickly to every situation. Though they would not win in a direct fight with either faction their versatility allows them to improvise quicky. They also use stealth technology more than either the UEF or Aeon Illuminate.

The Aeon Illuminate is the third faction in Supreme Commander. They are made up of humans that follow The Way, the philosophy of the Seraphim aliens found years ago before they were wiped out by Commander Smith-led xenophobic humans.
Aeon tactics rely on efficient, specialized attack vehicles with very powerful, yet narrow capabilities. Their weapons tend to be slower firing, but more damaging, than those of their rivals. The Aurora and Asylum, as well as other units, support this theory. Their weapons tend toward Seraphim-derived weapons, as well as other oddities such as sonic weapons. Aeon units are generally more aesthetically oriented than their UEF and Cybran counterparts - as a result of this, they possess a sleek, alien, organic and seemingly innocent form in neutral mode - but when in attack mode, they open up, revealing their weapons and giving the enemy cause for alarm.
:siren: THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT SUPREME COMMANDER 2 :siren:
heck yes, supcom.
Unfortunately the sound didn't work, so I didn't play it much. Reallly killed the experience IMO.
Only played Forged Alliance. Pretty awesome and much better than Supreme Commander 2 IMO.
I liked Supreme Commander 2. :(
But besides that, terrific game, and a fun RTS all around with friends. Unfortunately not a lot of my friends actually own it.
Well I did enjoy Supcom 2 at first. But after like 20 rounds with 3vs3 it started getting repetive.
I usually like those kind of strategy games, but SupCom felt a bit wrong for me. I didn't like it as much. A shame actually because it looks like a lot of fun.
Did SupCom 1 have infantry in it?
SupCom 2 seems to lack an infantry element to it and the image in the OP suggests SupCom 1 has infantry.
bro, the basic tier 1 assault bot that could be created in three seconds and died in two shots was the size of a large pine tree\
you seriously think infantry would be worth shit?

It'd be awesome seeing millions upon millions of tiny foot soldiers with weapons storming a robot.

As far as I know the only actually living soldiers are the commanders. The rest are all robots controlled by them remotely.
Was different in TA - were core were all paterned and copied humans and the arm were clones in massive power suits.
I am trying to convince my friends to get this so I can play with them, but they are WoW fags :smith:
Huh, I only have the second as of now. Steam sales brought it down to about $7.50, was a nice deal.

I'm having this EXACT same problem :frown:
Supcom is a fantastic game and was the first strategy game I introduced a couple of my friends to at a local LAN cafe. Sadly, the cafe is now closed and this game brings back some great memories.
SupCom is amazing. It caters so well to how I play in RTS's; turtle massivley with turrets and shit everywhere until you can build a huge ass army and some ultimate units to go merc the enemy base in one devastating attack. I know it's not actually a good way to play, and I'd get owned online, but it's so much fun to build like 10 experimentals and then just unleash them.
forged alliance was the best rts i've ever played
you haven't turtled until you turtle in sup com
I don't have FA, I only have the original SupCom and then SupCom 2 with the DLC.
If any of you guys want to play some of either just send me a PM. :buddy:
Which is better, the first or second game?
Which is better, the first or second game?
the first definitely, but get forged alliance instead of the vanilla game. sup com 2 isn't terrible but it lost a lot of what made sup com special
Gotta love cybran units, the Salem destroyers are just straight badass.
Which is better, the first or second game?
Second game streamlined it a lot, but it also lost sight of the whole point of SupCom.
SupCom is just another RTS with pretty graphics if you take away the massive scale and sheer size of maps. Personally I didn't like playing on some of the really huge maps, but that doesn't mean I didn't think they should be in the game. The only real thing good about SupCom 2 is the freeflow or whatever they called it, where units repelled each other instead of trying to do complex pathing where they bumped into each other a lot. If they put that into SupCom 1 there would be no competition at all.
Which is better, the first or second game?
To put it this way.
Ta - Streamlined, pay as you go economy massive massive scale
Supcom 1+FA - made complex by building positioning and a few other things, pay as yo ugo economy massive massive scale
Supcom 2 - streamlined again, pay on demand economy and merely a massive scale.
I personally still find TA the most fun but a lot of people would disagree with me.
Shit, I need to get FA. I only have vanilla.
I can only advice this game to anyone who plays RTS's, this game is the epitome of balance and good game mechanics.
What other game has you managing an advanced economy, and has massive experimental units that are hard as fuck to take down and most of all
DON'T WORK WITH DICEROLLS :D
Forged Alliance was the best game in the series. Supcom 2 is fun, but not like Forged Alliance. Great game, very worth it.

To be honest the main problem with the experimentals (save a few) was the fact that they were far too easy to take down. Usually a t2|3 unit spam was a whole lot more effective.
there's a few exceptions of course. Usually artilleries are decent, the monkeylord is good mostly due to the fact that it's incredibly cheap and the Aeon generator is endgaming as well.
of course at least one of the experimentals is good due to the fact that it dies - the Aeon mothership if you know where to park it so it does the most damage on landing you can win the game.
Does anyone want to play a match with me? :buddy:
Or shall we organize a FP match? 4 v 4

Yeah, the CZAR was just a really expensive tactical missile. It was awesome when you won the game with it though.
How did everyone else construct T1 mass refiners and power generators and what not?
I did some sort of grid like pattern, I have no idea if it was a good idea or not though.

Some of the units have visible cockpits if you look closely. But I think the reason behind that is if civilians wanted some protection and didn't have a Commander to control the units so instead there piloted.

I'd guess they were just there to look familiar. I only remember them being on the UEF planes, which are supposed to look familiar and conventional.
