The character Mega Man was created in 1987 by Keiji Inafune at Capcom of Japan as the protagonist in a new style of platform game. In the story behind the original series, Rock is a robot created as a lab assistant by the scientist Dr. Thomas Light; following treachery by Dr. Wily, Rock was converted into a fighting robot to defend the world from Wily's violent robotic threats. Thus he becomes Mega Man (Rockman in the Japanese original). Enemies are weak to at least one weapon; for instance, Fire Man will take more damage from Ice Man's weapon than from other weapons. The Robot Master levels can generally be completed in any order, resulting in a strategic hallmark of the series: determining the best order to defeat bosses and earn weapons. Sequels of Mega Man games contain new enemies alongside familiar ones, as well as new bosses and weapons, and the occasional new gadgets.

Keiji Inafune, wanting to give a new face to the popular character, created the Mega Man X series in 1993. Set in the future, this series follows the story of Mega Man's successor, Mega Man X, a new, advanced robot that has complete free will over his actions, thoughts and feelings. This character—often referred to as simply "X"—is also a creation of Dr. Light, put into suspended animation and uncovered 100 years in the future by a researcher named Dr. Cain. The Mega Man X series features more realistic 16-bit graphics and greater freedom of movement. In the Mega Man X series, the characters grow in abilities and power as the game progresses.

Mega Man Battle Network, a series on the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo GameCube, began in 2001 as a way for the Mega Man games to branch out into the console role-playing game market and to celebrate Mega Man's 15th anniversary. This series features an Net Navi called MegaMan.EXE. Net Navis are act as virtual assistants to Operators, an elementary student and future hero who uses his friend to help battle computer virus and other Internet-based threats. An anime series, Mega Man NT Warrior, was also produced and enjoyed by the majority of the awestruck mass population of the North Americas.
Megaman Legends.
Beginning on the PlayStation in 1997, a 3D action game series called Mega Man Legends was created to take advantage of the console's advanced graphics hardware. This series is in the same world as the other games, though thousands of years in the future. The world is covered by immense bodies of water, marked by a re-occurrence of several major characters from the original series in different situations. The hero, Mega Man (Rock) Volnutt, is a relic hunter called a "Digger" who scavenges various ruins laden throughout the world in search of refractor shards that can be mined as power sources and traded as currency. Mega Man Legends brings the gameplay into 3D and is an action adventure with role-playing game elements.
Megaman ZX.
The first game in the Mega Man ZX series was released in 2006. It takes place about 200 years after the Zero series, and is the first game series in the Mega Man franchise to feature main protagonists of different sexes. ZX is also the first game of the original timeline where the main character is a human. The series revolves around the fight of Vent and Aile to help a defense force called the Guardians stop the plans of the nefarious Serpent. Players collect Biometals containing data on the legendary heroes X and Zero and use the metals to increase power. A sequel, Mega Man ZX Advent, was later released.
Megaman Zero.

In 2002, a follow-up series to the Mega Man X franchise was developed for the Game Boy Advance which starred Zero, a character from Mega Man X. The series revolved around Zero battling a powerful human-supremacy force as he protects the oppressed remaining reploids. In the Mega Man Zero series, weapons are no longer copied, but abilities and enhancements can be collected throughout the levels.
Megaman Starforce.
A new series' first game, Mega Man Star Force, was released on the Nintendo DS on December 14, 2006, and released in North America on August 8, 2007. The Star Forces's launch commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Mega Man franchise. The Star Force games are very similar to the Battle Network games, and also takes place roughly 200 years later in the timeline. An anime based on this series began airing on TV Tokyo in October 2006, and aired in North America in August on Toonami Jetstream on Cartoon Network.
(P.S.: Those suit (and their powers) are available as soon as you defeated the boss that is linked to it.)
General series info:
The basics of the Megaman series is what made them famous, the only goal in Megaman is to get through a level full of monster, then beat a boss to get its powers. If you defeat the Ice boss, you'll get the Ice power, ETC...
Most of those games are 2D, and pretty easy to play. You have to Shoot, dash, move and jump. Nothing else.
While moving throughout the levels, you'll be able to find different parts for Megaman to use, in the first series, you'll only find Hearth container (HP UP), Sub tank (Refillable potion), and sometimes R-U-S-H letters, which are linked to your dog super powers.
In Megaman X, you'll find a bunch of Arm, helm, body and leg upgrades, each of them with a specific use. You might even find magical armor. (such as Golden armor in X3, Z-saber in X3, Omega Armor in X6, ETC)
I played all the Original Megaman, X1-x6, Battle network 1-5, Legends 1, All the Zero, and both ZX. The best in my view is Megaman X series, X1-X3 (SNES).

Thanks to Nohj for his help :buddy:
Very well done PlamZ! Glad to have a thread to talk about Megaman.
I just LOVED megaman, i played it as a kid on Snes with my brother and sisters
We need more talk of Megaman Legends. That game won a place in my heart. PalmZ, do you have a Cracked account?
Megaman 9 probably the best Megaman game ever. Then again I haven't played all the megaman games ever but I'm still willing to bet on it because it's great.
Megaman 2 being close behind. Then Megaman X1. Battle Network was also pretty nifty.

Why does everyone spell it PalmZ :saddowns:
And sorry, i don't. The legends series was not my favorite. I played it on N64 for the 1st time and i kinda sucked at it, but i played it on PC years later but i just couldn't get the hang on it. But i played it to the end even though it was not what i expected.
Still, good for those who like 3D third person shooter.

Megaman 10 is just as good as Megaman 9.
Dude, freakin' Megaman Legends.. I can't tell you how many hours me and my friends put into beating that game over and over again on the N64. :D Though I've always felt that Starforce was an epic fail. They should've continued the Battle Network Series.
Megaman 10 is just as good as Megaman 9.
Megaman 10 was too easy. The characters are a little more on the lame side. Basically it feels like Megaman 3 when 9 felt more like 2. 2 being superior to 3.

When I beat the Cybeasts in 6 and the game told me that the entire Battle network story was ending, I was really dissapointed. A small glimmer of hope returned when MegaMan.EXE made a cameo in Star Force 1, but the buster he gives Mega Man isn't useful at all.
Getting the NaviCust program "HubBat" in Battle Network 3 and actually finding the correct compression code was the greatest part of the game. It involved you fighting and defeating the most powerful member of the underworld, Serenade, fighting through 20 or so waves of freakishly strong viruses with auras that forced you to use your strongest chips to temporarily lower their defenses to kill them, then find the correct error override code and the compression code to make the program useful. Once you equipped it though it was one of the best NaviCust programs in the game.
Holy crap. You went thorugh that hell hole too? Sernenade and the Secret Net ticked me off big time, but was my favorite part of the game. the Battle Network series was by far my fav of all. The storyline was just too amazing. And the gameplay actually required some pretty complex strategy based on the NaviCust and styles, etc. Nice to know some people actually keep playing after they beat the original story mode. :v:

Multiplayer battles in 3 were astoundingly fun. Later Battle Network games always leaned towards one version, and when I fought with my friends they always seemed to pick the better version. In 3 when I played I only played practice battles because neither one of us wanted a loss on our permanent records and a chip seized as spoils, but we still fought our hardest anyways. My favorite battle has to be when me and my friend both placed down various obstacles to block the other's attacks and it worked, but I ran dangerously low on chips. For some reason I had replaced FolderBack with BassGS and I had both the gigachip and a DarkHole chip in my hand, reverse order. I set down the dark hole and hid behind a pawn, but my friend was a FireShadow style, and had charged up his Invis charge attack. We both sat and waited for the darkhole to open. If it opened and I released BassGS first, I would win, but if he released Invis first BassGS would miss and I would lose.
I managed to release the gigachip a milisecond after the darkhole opened, and I won that battle. It was my favorite fight from that game, and I still remember it after it ended 7 years ago.
you forgot megaman x command mission

Obligatory and amazing. Megaman 2 was the best.

That's by far one of the most epic battles I've heard of on there. Lol
And yeah, battles were always one sided after BN 3. :/ Especially when 6 came out, and 5. I always ended up with the version with the crappy Styles in it. But the gameplay was still amazingly fun, especially the story mode.
you forgot megaman x command mission
Lol I was playing Command Mission when I read this post. :D
All this talk about Megaman got me all psyched up. Oh the nastalgia.
I only had GBA when I was a kid so I really only knew Megaman as Megaman Battle Network and Megaman Zero. Those are my favorites but a few years ago I discovered the NES and SNES and the old Megaman games too, they're pretty sweet but I'll always love MMBN and Zero the most.

Dude that's epic
the whole mega man universe as it is, is epic, nes mega man games had tricky levels and bust-yo-ballz bosses, then the X and Zero series continued that, the battle network and star force series still had the same charm, albeit from a more rpg/Card game side. i can't say for sure about the legends series because I never got to play it.
ZX was cool though, instead of weapons for one character you got different characters with different skills, and yes
i hated the fact that Serpent killed Giro at the end of the fourth mission
in the X series Zero was my favorite character, and he was the ZX counterpart. though getting his biometal was a nice touch

Battle network and Star force killed the good-ol 2D plaform ass-kicking game i loved :ohdear:
Just wanted to say : Making that thread made me want to play megaman, so i just finished Megaman Zero 1-3 in 2 days.
everyone know mega man 2 is the best of the series by far.
32bit Mega Man is awful.

Also. Mega Man Online
Megaman Battle Network should have ended with 3. After that they just milked it to death.

I wish that they kept Styles instead of using temporary Souls. A Soul could be easily discarded, but Styles augumented Megaman's abilities and forced people to adapt their fighting styles to accomodate the Styles.
That said, half the Styles I picked up, due to my fighting deck, was AquaShield. I got used to it, but liked AquaShadow the best.
I just found a place where you can download a cracked (And somewhat legal) pack with Megaman X1 to X8. If someone needs it, just PM me i'll give it to you.
I love Legends series, wish there was 3rd :sigh:
I kinda liked the "cliffhanger" at the end of 2 though.

I agree. Roll was hot in that game
I prefered the 2D one. But still i admit the first Legend was not bad (Haven't played the second yet)
