Gotcha Force is a GameCube game released in 2003 by Capcom. Although it received poor reviews and minimal advertising to this day it remains a cult classic. It contained over 200 unique borgs with over 8 colours between them and intense single and multiplayer action. It was translated from Japanese with horrendous English voice acting and a laughable story.
Story
The Earth is being attacked by small army of "Gotcha Borgs" called the Death Force. Luckily, a child named Kou finds a borg called G-Red and forms the Gotcha Force. Allied by his friends, Kou counter-attacks and aims to get rid of the menace, known as the Death Force's leader, the Galactic Emperor.
From Wikipedia
In a more in depth summary it basically goes like this. Some new kid who moved into town named Kou sees a shooting star fly into the mountains near his house. When he goes to investigates he finds a small robot (called a Borg) named G Red who tells him that the Galactic Emperor and the Death Force plan to attack and destroy Earth the same way their home planet (Megaborg) was destroyed.
All of Kou's friends end up meeting unique borgs as well and decide to form the Gotcha Force to defeat the Galactic Emperor. After many battles they eventually engage and defeat the Emperor in space.
Gameplay
The gameplay for Gotcha Force is what really made it stand out. When you first start the game you only have G Red but as you progress and win battles you randomly unlock more powerful borgs. Some of which can fuse together to form completely different borgs. Movement was joystick controlled with two attack buttons that could be used to use unique borg attacks.Once the entire enemy force is eliminated you win the match and are judged based on your gameplay performance. During the story your force is determined by your "G-Energy" which grows after each fight, borgs costs energy to use and you were limited by how much G-Energy you had.
Each time you completed the story mode you earned a reward (the first time you get nothing, the second time you get special mode which lets you replay any of the game's over 100 story battles and any subsequent completions awarded you with a custom coloured G-Red/Neo G-Red. You kept your borgs from previous playthroughs but you couldn't use all of them until you re-aquired your G-Energy
There were also some "supposed to lose" fights that were hard to beat the first time (marked with the "Tuff Stuff" flag). But on other playthroughs if you won these fights you unlocked secret allies that changed the story and made the final boss easier.
In Multiplayer you can play up to 4 player split screen with unlimited G-Energy and a total of 30 borgs per player (which translates to 60 borgs per side or 120 borgs in total).
Each borg is unique and has multiple attacks and combination abilities. While borgs of the same tribe have similiar play styles they are radically different from each other.

Conclusion
This is my first megathread so I will accept any critism and will improve it the best I can.
I used to love that game, thanks for the memories :buddy:

Thanks man! I still take a couple of hours a week to play it on my Wii with my 3 friends to have some fun. Great to see this great game wasn't forgotten.
Pretty decent thread but some screenshots would be nice.
On it!!
EDIT: Done
Nostalgia'd
Great to see people have played this.
I nostalgia'd so hard.
I remember when I beat the stingy rival guy for the first time.
Really makes you think when they'll do a sequel.
Oh god, nostalgia. Best "train up an army of fighting critters" game ever. I loved trying out all the different characters, then steamrolling the final boss on the second playthrough because I had that alien space ship with the wank lasers.
Now I'm going to end up spending ages figuring out how to get my Gamecube working with my TV.

Do you have a Wii? I usually play it on my Wii because the disc lid on my GC is fucked.

Nah, I don't have any of the current-gen consoles. Only my PC. I don't even have a PS2, only a Gamecube and an XBox.

Ah that's a shame... Anyways I always remember the first time going against the final boss was hard as fuck so I ended up beating the repeating battles for like a week straight so I had enough G-Energy to stick like 15 borgs in my force and win the battle with sheer numbers.

I remember in some of the missions I had to rely on spamming cheap ones because the really tough powerful ones ended up dying fast anyway. But when I look at the videos on youtube it still blows me away how many different borgs there are and how diverse they are. I think for pure fun Gotcha Force is way better than any of the Pokemon games. Because you see the characters in real-time, you actually see the bullets (lasers, missiles, sword shockwaves etc) fly instead of a sprite jerking forward and a health bar shrinking, and that lets you have a lot more difference between units than Pokemon, which is more or less "this pokemon will get really strong at high level but I should bring different elements to cover all my bases". The differences are based on the game dynamics rather than bland damage types and armour types.
I'm not trying to bash Pokemon, by the way, it's still good at being a nice simple turn-based tactics game with an assload of different Pokemon, and it's easier to pick up and play casually and doesn't force you to pay attention to win. Just Gotcha Force is more fun.
There should be more games like this, god damn.
Needs a God damn sequel.
Fusing borgs in the middle of a fight to make that huge dragon thing or whatever it is was hilarious. :v:

I prefered merging the two red and blue guys to form fucking Optimus Beast Prime Lazor Hax. I swear once you did that the giant ass shield made you invincible.
