Do you game using headphones or speakers?
For years I have always used speakers, and since last year I have been using the speakers built into the HDTV I use as a monitor.
I don't often play games loudly. When my folks go out I often think "hey I'll go on Arma and play it on highest volume!" but then I end up getting irritated by how incredibly loud it is. Sometimes I feel it's actually physically painful because the sound quality is tinny.
But recently my bro has been home after finishing university and, seeing as he is sat in the same room playing Mario Galaxy 2 with its infuriating music, I have been playing games with his lovely headphones. I gotta say the sound quality is incredible. The directional sound and the bass are so much better than what I'm used to and I find myself playing games at a deafening volume, but actually loving it. These headphones have actually improved my gaming experience massively.
There is the issue of practicality though. If anyone wants to speak to me there is no way I'll hear them and my head and ears sometimes get sore during a long session.
Now I'm tempted to get some really nice speakers to replicate this quality, but without the same practical issues as the headphones.
Headphones, so I get a microphone and I won't disturb the other people in my house
Headphones, better quality for the price and I don't disturb other people.
I have a stereo which I use for speakers, but I use headphones as well.
I wear glasses so headphones get annoying quickly.
It depends.
cheap In ear Ear buds over speakers? No.
Over ear 50$ nice over ear headphones over speakers? definitely
Headphones <3
How loud do you people play with headphones? Because when I have been playing recently I have it mad loud. On Arma the weapon sounds pump through my skull. The helicopters sound like they are in the room.
I am too tempted to play like this and it gets to the stage where people have walked into the room I'm in, said something and left again and I haven't even noticed.
... I think I need to strike a healthy balance.
Headphones are better in my opinion, but yeah damn sore ears from long sessions. And so far every actual headset I've used broke after around six months.
I've never used speakers on my Computer; mainly because I hate when people ask me to turn my TV down so theirs is louder.
As for console gaming I just started using a headset about a year ago. Not only did it improve my gameplay a lot, the sound is a lot better and enjoyable. The one thing I do not like though is on the console I find it hard to hear people sometimes.
Speakers. But if I would choose headphones I'd not use those huge, bulky pieces of shit.
Headphones. I like my privacy.
Headphones... Better sound, helps cancel out background noise, comes with mic's, and can utilize skype. It's kind of the obvious choice.
Headphones are often the best option for a gamer. But truth is that there are not many games with high quality audio.
I think the biggest plus (and reason why i got em) is that you can game during the night without angry parents knocking on your door and because you can hear from what direction sound comes.
I'd like a 2.1 or 5.1 set though.
I usually use headphones, but since I have a subwoofer, too, I like to use my speakers every now and then.
I use my Razer Moray + earphones, and they have even better bass than my previous Skull Candy headphones, and with a mic they are still only £35. They sound brilliant on Bad Company 2, and come in a case with adapters for DS and PSP.
I've got a 5.1 surround sound setup in my room, but I pretty much never use it. The only time I do is when a friend's over playing something, or I'm watching a movie. I prefer my headphones for personal use.

I wear glasses, headphones are just fine with me.
Headphones, been using them for years.
I have a Yamaha 5.1 system, but I only use it when I am not on the mic.
Fancy 5.1
My lousy 5.1 when I'm alone, headphones else or at night
Headphones
I have these nice Bluetooth headphones, they last much longer because cables don't break. They're also 5.1, so it sounds really great.
I don't get sore ears though, I guess you guys need better headphones.
simple speakers
cheap, efficient, good quality, not uncomfortable, i dont look/sound like a retard talking to my computer when im on skype
Apple iPhone Headphones have an inbuilt microphone :buddy:
So it's quite useful to have them if using chat
Speakers.
I never use headphones for gaming.
Headphones. I can ruin my ears without annoying others
Depends on the situation, Sometimes I use my Grado's, other times I use my "Fancy surround-sound speakers"
headphones
and they're sound proof
