What is Battlefield 2?
Battlefield 2 (commonly abbreviated to BF2) is a computer game by the Swedish developer Digital Illusions CE (DICE). During development, Trauma Studios contributed to the development of the game after it was acquired by DICE. Battlefield 2 is published by Electronic Arts and is the third full game in the Battlefield series, released on June 21, 2005 in North America for Microsoft Windows. The latest version is v1.50, which was released on September 1, 2009 and added the content of the Euro Force and Armored Fury booster packs, as well as the Highway Tampa and Operation Blue Pearl maps.
Players fight in a modern battlefield, using modern weapon systems. Battlefield 2 is a first-person shooter with some strategy and RPG elements. The single player features missions that involve clashes between US Marines, China and the fictional Middle Eastern Coalition. The multiplayer aspect of the game allows players to organize into squads that come under the leadership of a single commander to promote teamwork.
A direct sequel, Battlefield 3, is in the works, and has been confirmed by EA and DICE to be the next game in the Battlefield franchise.
Vehicles
Vehicles
The various forces still use the trademark feature of the Battlefield series - the large stable of vehicles that any player can climb into and control. There are many different types of vehicles playable in Battlefield 2, all based on real-life vehicles used by the militaries of different countries.
A M1A2 Abrams in-game firing its main cannon
There are about 30 vehicles available for use ranging from main battle tanks such as the M1A2 Abrams to fast transports like the Desert Patrol Vehicle. In contrast to Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2 has only one purely water-based vehicle, the rigid-inflatable boat; however, the BTR-90, the MEC APC, can travel in water as well as the LAV-25 and the WZ 551, the USMC and PLA equivalents, respectively. The developers tried to design the game so that every vehicle would be weak to another type of vehicle, intending to create a situation similar to a game of rock-paper-scissors. For example, mobile anti-air was intended to effectively destroy helicopters, but are vulnerable against opposing tanks. Included within this relationship are stationary defenses such as light machine guns and anti-aircraft/TOW emplacements. The availability and number of certain vehicles are dependent on the map and its size as well as control points captured. Also, more vehicles become available to be used on the maps of expansion/booster packs. The USS Essex is the only naval ship featured in BF2, featuring two spawn points and aircraft spawn points, and is not drivable or destroyable, except for its Phalanx turrets.
I love Battlefield 2. :buddy:
It was very nice of the developers to release the two booster packs for free in the latest patch.
The 2142 booster pack is supposed to be released in a patch for free, too, but I haven't heard anything more about that. :smith:
I would have liked this more if all the servers weren't either jets spawn raping or grenade spam. And if the weapon accuracy wasn't so weird.
Forgotten Hope 2 is cool, but no one plays that.
:downs:
enemy wheelbarrow spotted arrrrgh
Medic!
there is a garry's mod for BF2
it's called sandbox
Project Reality is where its at.
Love it, but it always turns into grenade spam fests and claymore camping on the maps I usually play on.
And it takes like 5 minutes for me to log into my account :wtc:
Loved it. Cant wait for BF P4F
I have probably more fun than I should just messing with the grappling hook
Still got my old case.
This game was good back in 2005 for a while, until nade spamming, Special Forces unlock weapons and jets ruined it.
Such an awesome game and it still continues to be incredibly fun. AIX 2 makes it even better, however vanilla is also incredibly enjoyable.
The fucking J-10 :argh:
This game is my favorite of all time. It's the only game that I look back on and feel nostalgic about.

Apparently I officially gave it up in october '09 but I remember it starting to die out well before that. A full year or so before that.
I started to stop playing when my account stuck at Master sergeant for 4 years. I like quadrupled my experience yet I'm stuck there. :smith:
I used to be in a clan, just for fun. Full of middle aged guys from "Ne'yark" One of the guys bought me 2142 so I could play with them :umsmith. I was like 16 at the time, so weird to think about it.
I still boot it up every few weeks for some Gulf of Oman 64 person or Jalalabad 64 person Infantry only.
I love this game, but I'm SO terrible at it.
Enemy wheelbarrow spotted!
No can do

Im working on a facepunch server. It will have mostly custom made maps. Ill call it Facepunch Extreme - Now With Custom Maps
This game was my life for the longest time. Get a squad of friends and you will never stop laughing.
Spamming enemy boat spotted on infantry only servers. :buddy:
i remember playing the demo in 2005 over and over
:siren:BAIL OUT:siren:
God that phrase is burned into my ears
Enemy APC spotted.
lets jet camp
Start fighting or I'll find someone who can!
Is this game still alive? I really want to play it.
Still got my old case.
You're lucky.
I lost my case with my discs somewhere in my house. But I already have it installed, with the latest patch, so until I find it, I can never uninstall it.
But it's fairly active. Project Reality is an acquired taste, though. I can't have fun in it until I play with my friends or a really coordinated team/squad.
