I loaded up Destructoid today and was pretty surprised
For many, GoldenEye was the turning point for first-person shooters on consoles, and in many ways defined the Nintendo 64-era of gaming. Since then, publishers and developers haven't been able to capture the same magic of Rare's original. So what do you do? You remake it, apparently.
According to a leaked survey, Activision will be releasing a new version of GoldenEye for the Wii, "developed from the ground up" to take "advantage of the latest technology to deliver the same intense experience with today's graphics and physics." The title will supposedly "modernize" the classic story, placing Daniel Craig in the role of Bond. The survey suggests that many (if not all) of the originals areas from the N64 title will return, along with its weapons and four-player split-screen. The game will reportedly support 8-player online matches, as well.
A potential golden Wii Remote shell, as well as a golden Classic controller, were also hinted at in the survey.
Following this survey leak, Eurogamer has received word that Eurocom (responsible for the N64 Bond outing, The World is Not Enough) will be developing the title, along with n-Space. GoldenEye for Wii, along with an Nintendo DS title of the same name, is said to be revealed at this year's E3.
...Why?
Although it is an incredible game, it doesn't need to be remade. It was one of the biggest innovations in the FPS genre, but at this point the mechanics are outdated and if it were to be remade it would just be a generic FPS with the 007 licence slapped on it.
Its perfect as it is, just fucking port it and you'll get millions.
Leave the past in the past, atleast in this case.
Its going to be ruined too.
Already ruined by using Craig as Bond.
I really don't see a need for this, goleneye's main appeal was the gameplay, said gameplay is stale and outdated nowadays, by remaking it it's just gonna ruin the name.
Eh, why are they even using Craig?
They should've kept brosnan
For FUCK sake Activision. You utter fucking cunts, yet again.
You know, maybe if all they did was a port with much higher res graphics, it might be alright. But, they have to change everything, and, knowing Activision there will be 16 sequels to follow.

Looks faked to me.
I think its going to be bad, I mean I know I haven't played it... or even seen a trailer for it.. and I don't know the features of gameplay, But the fact that its a remake of a old good game makes it bad.
Looks fake.

I mean, look at the images, then look at these.

Besides, the Goldeneye IP belongs to Rare, I believe, and they currently belong to Microsoft.
I won't believe this until I see an official Press Release.
No Bond? What the hell.
I'm guessing it'll be a bit like GoldenEye Source in the gameplay and graphics department. Maybe slightly worse.

Lol
who knows, it might be okay, you guys are such negative nancies
If this is true, I'm pissed.
Rare holds rights to Goldeneye just the same as Nintendo does. If they make this on the Wii, they sure as hell better make it on XBLA like Perfect Dark.

Casino Royale was good
You should all probably stop discussing it because chances are it's fake. The reason GoldenEye64 hasn't been released on XBL yet is because no one is sure who owns the rights:
Rare are owned by Microsoft
The game was published on the N64, owned by Nintendo
The original development team left and formed Free Radical, who are now Crytek UK, owned by Crytek.
As you can see - it's all very complicated. There's no way Nintendo could release this game on the Wii.

Maybe on it's own, but as a Bond film it failed miserably. No gadgets, no humor etc.
And then Quantum of Solace just dragged the Bond-series further down.
Are game devs starting to run out of ideas too?

Quantum of Solace blew, I agree, but CR was more of a return to the original Connery films, From Russia with Love and Dr No mostly
I mean, look at the last Brosnan film. It was fucking ridiculous. Fucking ice palaces

No, Activision-Blizzard own the rights to James Bond games now.

Doesn't mean they can't make a new one.
Well, Activision hasn't been exactly positive lately. I have a feeling that if this is real, it's only to milk Goldeneye fans of their money.
And knowing Activision with that indie games competition thing.. They'll probably try to file a cease and desist on Goldeneye: Source like douchebags - again, IF this is real.
Yeah, they're going to fuck it up. At least the can't call it "Goldeneye N64 Remake," so it won't totally destroy the name of the game. >.< I used to play the hell out of that game. I always accidentally killed that guy that you're supposed to rendezvous with.
Tl;dr Dual wielding klobbs does not make up for teh fact that you are wielding teh klobbs.
I loved GoldenEye, and I would like a remake. The only thing that worries me is that it's being made by Activision. But god damn, look at the new blaster thing for the wii-mote.
can the Wii even run Goldeneye?

Can they file a cease and desist on a mod? I know Microsoft stopped something a few years ago because it was similar to their upcoming Halo Wars, but I can't remember the specifics.
If it is real and if Activision did, then it'd just be another bad move for them.
