I could not see a thread about X-Com anyway so i decided to start my own. They were fantastic games (probably with the exception of enforcer...) and are still very playable to this day. I was wonderin if anyone still plays the series. If you have never heard of them they were a 7 part series.

Yeah i used DOSBOX for UFO,TFTD and Apocalypse, sadly i can no longer run interceptor due to some bug with xp :(
UFO is the shit.
They are flipping hard.
Also, bloody Aliens hiding in corners! It means that shoot my guys before I can get them- espicially those right beside doors :(
Haven't played it in a long time, but...

Also, my desktop is a mess.
Ufo is not that hard... until they start possessing your soldiers and they all kill each other.
Never give a weak minded person a Blaster launcher. :(
X-Com Enemy Unknown rocks, I always wish I could unlearn everything I know and replay the game. I like to make small squads and name them after my friends. I also have a copy of X-Com Interceptor, but it turmed out to be pure german so I don't understand any of it. :tinfoil:

As my friends and I always used to do.
I remember when I was about 15, a friend and I watched a friend of my uncle's play Terror from the Deep, and when we saw that he had named many of his soldiers after his friends, we asked him where we were in the game.
He said "I won't allow child soldiers in my army."
I've got the Pocket PC version, I play it ocassionaly.
I just finished UFO defence again. One of the worlds greatest games.
I play UFO Defense every few months and beat it. I tried to get into Apocalypse due to that awesome SA LP thread, but never really managed to get into it. UFO Defense is really one of the greatest games ever made.

I did that too but they always end up dying. I put myself in as well one time, I was second in command rank "colonel" with only one person with a higher rank...,So i decided the commander should go explore a very large craft on his own :) lets just say after that mission i was made Commander.
I miss it so much but it doesn't work in vista. The first is the best.

Have you tried DOSBOX? its the software i use because the game had issues working on xp for me.
http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1
I used the latest version 0.72
If you are lucky you should be able to play UFO, TFTD and Apocalypse :)
Although i could not get apocalypse to run the intro cutscene or play music.(The other cutscenes worked fine and so did the sound)

is a very good site and worked with the DOSBOX
I played the game before, but I couldn't even get past the earth view.
Unless I'm thinking of another game. :v:
that awesome SA LP thread
Where can I find it?

The Earthview (Geoscape screen) sounds right, usually you had to wait for enemy aircraft to appear or wait for them to launch an attack. Then you send your ships down to the point and it brings up the battle screen.

So you defend your base? Or can you attack them?
So you defend your base? Or can you attack them?
If your base fell under attack then you get the option to defend it, first with any missel defence systems you have built, if they fail to stop the UFO landing your squad must defend it.
To attack them, you wait for a UFO or terror site to appear, if it is a UFO you send out an interceptor craft to attack it first. Then you send your dropship (skyranger) to the crash site, with terror sites just send a dropship down.
A good idea at the start is to build a large radar, rather than just using your standard one.
You can also tell your interceptors to scout around to search for craft or bases. If there are a lot of craft appearing in the same area its best to scout it as their may be a base. Same as a terror site just send in a dropship.
I remember playing UFO Enemy Unknown, what an awesome game. I remember being really bad at it until I started playing it again recently an using my squad like a proper military squad, moving as one unit and covering each other, only taking a few steps at a time. Tanks used to scout ahead and the soldiers for heavy firepower.
My overriding memory was a really tense part where I shot down a small ship with six ethereals on it in the Arctic, and trying to chase down and capture them on the ice, before I got any psychic technology.

the same thing happened to me.
i first played the game when i was 6 and had absolutely no sense for tactics, i failed just about every mission and always got game over. It was only when i got it recently i was able to carry out the battles much better. :)
I still play this awesome game.
A friend of my older brother introduced it to me when I was 13 and then I played it and won. Two months ago I got Xcom: Terror From the deep on STEAM (Im 15 now) and I plan on Getting Xcom: Enforcer because its a FPS version of Xcom. Theres some guys working on a source version of Enforcer, heres a link to the information of it if anyone is intrested in helping out with it: http://www.moddb.com/mods/x-com-enforcer-source
Best game series ever period. Enemy Unknown, TFTD, and Apoc. *Shudders and creams*
UFO Defence is the best game. I tried TFTD but it's just a reskinned UFOD. Gotta try Apocalypse some day.

Yeah defo worth it, a pain to get working but when you do, its damn good. :)
Yes, some times, both X-Com and UFO series, too bad UFO series suck a bit (Aftershock suck less than others, too bad the only resolution it supports is 1024x768)
I love X-com! I bought all the games again in the steam sale and it works fine in vista.
Recently I bought UFO Extraterrestrials which isn't part of that other UFO line of games. It's surprisingly good, but it's like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in the sense that it requires mods to bring out it's full potential.
