• Valve should make a MMORPG

You heard me right, I think that Valve should make a PPM (although it doesn't have to be, it just might promote more quality) MMORPG, that could either be entirely different to all their games so far, or it could be based on the Half Life universe or something. I think it would be really good to see, as I've been seeing a lot of developer studios try (and fail hard) to create MMORPGs that just don't cut it like WoW does (and I've never even had to play WoW. Just seeing how addictive it is is good enough reason to get in on that cream pie).
a hl2 mmorpg seem's really good.
sounds rediculous
I will role-play Alyx
Related somewhat: But isn't Bethesda making a Fallout MMORPG?
I have a dream of someday playing multiplayer Portal. But isn't this the wrong section?
a hl2 mmorpg seem's really good.
Well isnt that the same as G'mod RP on large servers, and its free.
No, it would suck. Most game companies specialize in a certain genre and similar genres, valve is good at FPS.
It's definitely a discussion. Well it would be if people posted more than than 2 sentences a post.
theres already one. but its a mod cant remember the name. just search on MODB for it
No, it would suck. Most game companies specialize in a certain genre and similar genres, valve is good at FPS.
But Valve aren't like other companies
That would be a pretty terrible idea actually and it would destroy the half-life plot. Could you really picture rebel ninjas assassinating combine with a fucking crowbar?
HL2 MMO would be good until Gordon Freeman came along and ended everything.
That would end badly.

What I would like to see in an MMO game: Similar to Battlefield, Fallout and WoW. Large expanse of land that has little to no pre defined quests, goals, etc. There are areas with natural resources, areas suitable for constructing and mining, water, settlements and so on. Groups of players form to collaborate and control these points, working together to gain information on rival emplacements and how to overtake them. None of the actions would be directed by the game or by developers, but allow players to construct and fortify their own locations and figure out how to conduct business and arms trade. It's kind of hard to explain without making it tl;dr, but, hopefully you get the idea.

Valve can be original, they can come up with more than just aliens falling through super portals in questionable conditions.
The game you are looking for is called EVE Online :smug:
EVE doesn't have large expanses of land, let alone any of those other features.
The game you are looking for is called EVE Online :smug:
Except it's boring as fuck.
The game you are looking for is called EVE Online :smug:
Yes, EVE's player driven system if fantastic. I'd like to see that implemented into a game like similar to Fallout or Unreal Tournament.
You've killed an Initiate Civil Protection! 12 EXP!
-snip-
Well if there was an MMO during the 7 years (i think that's the amount of time) that Gordon is in stasis that would be pretty cool and would allow a lot of things to be answered.
You've killed an Initiate Civil Protection! 12 EXP!
I just jizzed in my pants. You levelled up! Level 2 Security Guard
EVE doesn't have large expanses of land, let alone any of those other features.
It quite obviously does good sir, you just need some imagination and foresight to see space=land. It has all of the other elements. Natural resources: Asteroid belts and moons for mining Mining: Asteroid belts Collaboration: Make an alliance or join one and collaborate, until someone disbands your alliance or something crazy like that :P You get intel and you fight other alliances all in the name of internet seriousness Also the developers have no say in any of this ;D
I'd like a sneaking/assassinating game within the HL2 universe.
Valve doesn't enter the market of MMO's for a reason people.
It would be cool, but Valve would dedicate all of their time to working on it even after it's released.
