Not because of the character himself but because of the people who idolize the idea of him.
To me he seems like one of those really lame characters that regardless if he [b]did[/b] have a personality it would be that of a nerdy dude that would have stayed quiet anyways because he is so socially inept around people.
I could think of a couple of characters that you never see in other games they are in and have no face, and people never account those characters like if valve was the first to do that.
And besides even if your character has a face and a personality already I still feel the same when I'm playing as them as when I'm playing Half-life.
So having a blank canvas doesn't matter to me because my personality takes over anything I control [b]regardless[/b] of who it is.

The reason why people Idolise gordon is because He is literally a blank slate. And Because of this, you could project yourself into him. Why people call him a badass, is because for people who have played Half Life (1) and then 2, he transformed into a run of the mill man, to a saviour of earth. And it's because of this, that he is nothing more but an outline for a story that (some) people who play the half life games expand upon. An empty shell, that you fill with your personality, if you will.
