I'm a new player to World of Warcraft and a friend of mine recommended Quest Helper. I've installed the add-on and I'm using it just fine. I have instant quest text turned on in my settings so I can pick up quests and be on my merry way.
Is it ever worth reading the quest text if I know exactly where to go and what to do? Will I miss out on anything?
You don't have to read the text, but personally I enjoy reading everything so I know why I'm doing the quest in the first place. Plus some quests are really interesting to read about. Really immerses you in the game sometimes.
Uninstall quest helper.
There is a better quest helper built in to the game.

You don't need to read the text to know what to do, but for lore stuff.
When I played WoW, and EQ2 I read only the text in Chains of quests.
In small quests its not really any fun, but when you find a quest that may lead to something cool, or sounds really epic. Take the time to read it.

This. Some questlines are actually more fun if you know the backstory.

Its actually useful sometimes, I've encountered some confusing quests.

This - use the built-in questhelper.
Also, do read the quest text, it can be fun, interesting or just lore-filled (which is cool, right?)
Delete QuestHelper. Your friend is a fucking idiot.
WoW has its own BUILT-IN QuesHelper. Use it. See where the quest is done, go there, do the quest.
Don't read shit.
QuestHelper's for kiddies.
You can read the quest details if you like. It usually gives you a better idea of what you need to do, and in some people's opinion, it's more fun (like myself).
I still use QuestHelper because of the arrow and level filtering.
I use QuestHelper because of the arrow, I don't want to open up the map and find the place I need to go and how to get there, I just follow the arrow and I'm faster than anyone else.
There is nothing wrong with it. It's also a great way to manage your quests.
Either use it or not, there is no point bitching about people using it and people not using it.
I couldn't give 2 fucks about people not using it.
ohshit ohshit i need an arrow to tell me where to go or i cant quest
fucking baddies
also, questhelper is a gigantic bog down on your system and will murder your fps

Really? Doesn't make a difference here.
I don't NEED the arrow, I just cba to open my map all the time, sometimes. :frown:

Unless you have a shitty computer, it won't make a difference, it doesn't here.
And I can quest without the arrow, but why should I if I can just look at the top of my screen with an arrow pointing where I need to go, the distance left and what I should do without opening up anything. And it's not like it has any effect on the gameplay of others. So why care.
itt people who havent been in dalaran on a friday night
QuestGuru however might be useful, but it's bitchass broken with 3.3
(I like the tracker looks and it really lookz nais)

It will have a noticeable effect. Doesn't matter how good your computer is. As ketchup said, go to Dalaran on a friday night, measure FPS. Then do it again with Questhelper enabled. You will see a difference. This is not due to your computer, but WoW itself.

Yay for disconnects. :v:

I'll be sure to try it. :buddy:
I read the quest text to quests I haven't done.
I've done almost all of the vanilla quests, so there's no point in me reading the quest text again.

One more reason why I can't wait for cataclysm. Loads more quests, with loads more lore.
I didn't start reading quest text before I hit Northrend. Most of the quests there have some interesting lore.
I personally refuse to use QuestHelper because of the shitty coding.
Carbonite has more features anyways, I like the punk-list.
I usually don't read quest text, but in playing a fresh alt, I found the "run around and get help for Lakeshire" quest line almost compelling.
Mostly because I still skipped the quest text, but since I was always flying, I would just read the letters they were sending via my person.

I always do that, I only read letters while I'm flying so I have something to do.
I use Carto questhelper
I always read a little of the quest text. If it's interesting or if the built-in questhelper doesn't give any directions, I'll continue reading.
If you enjoy knowing why exactly you're rescuing some hapless straggler out of a enemy infested camp, or why exactly you need to obtain seven wolf hearts, thirty deer eyes and two cougar paws, read the quest text. It's oftentimes well worth it, especially for the chains or longer quests, and immerses you in the game.
If you just want to level a character to 80 as fast as possible in order to start gearing up for raids, don't bother.
I use Zylgor's Quest thingie, it's really efficient...
