About
RUNNING WITH RIFLES is a top-down sandbox shooter for PC/Windows, with emphasis on cooperation, squad leading and being a tiny soldier in a big war. The events take place on an open world battlefield divided between two factions, each trying to capture bases from the opposite side until the enemy has been wiped out from the area. The player takes the role of a private and fights along his/her comrades controlled by AI, slowly gaining influence over fellow soldiers through rank promotions from success in battles. When the influence grows, AI soldiers begin to follow the player starting as a combat pair, ultimately forming a 10-member squad. The AI squad commanding has been made as transparent as possible to avoid micromanagement and excess amount of keys or menus. The AI squad members e.g. find cover on leader’s signal from crouching, they spot enemies on their own and open fire if it fits the situation. When the leader uses a suppressed weapon for stealth approach, the squad will engage in fight only if the enemy manages to alert the surroundings by shouting or shooting. The soldiers die quickly, and the player’s soldier makes no exception. The game uses the simplest possible die-or-don’t bullet hit model, which makes the gameplay extremely intense and challenging. Caution, frequent usage of covers, suppressing fire to buy time and staying with the group is highly encouraged; the heroic rambo-style risk taking will likely lead only to a quick death.. it’s a beautiful way to go though.
Goodies from the website
3x 1km * 1km maps with 7-14 bases Total amount of soldiers up to 600 based on player’s preferences Single player and online multiplayer modes, server browser Two assault rifles, AK47 and G36 Light machine gun M240 Suppressed submachine gun MP5 SD Shotgun Mossberg 500 Sniper rifle M24-A2 Grenades and mortar strikes Take cover in trenches, behind sandbag walls, trees, crates and rocks, go crouch and prone (now with movement!) access roof tops. Day time changes; during the night the soldiers won’t see that far and wide, enabling better stealth opportunities. Holy shit this has changed.
I remember playing the alpha a year ago or so, glad it's getting a lot of progress. Really great looking so far.
What's all changed?
What's all changed?
Well from the alpha, new maps, weapons, animations and such. Eventually their will be multiplayer with more gamemodes, weapons, vehicles.
Bump. This game is now at 0.77, quite a few changes. It now also have jeeps, trucks and APCs. Here's a few videos of it (not mine). There should be a FP server or something, it's a fun little game. I never seem to find people online, which is a real shame.
I completely forgot I bought this. I need to remember to allow Desura to boot up when I start my computer so I don't forget again.
I never seem to find people online, which is a real shame.
Hence why we need to schedule this stuff or something.
Oh man, I just played a whole round of this. I forgot how cool it felt.
Wow, just finished playing the demo. Definitely worth a purchase, love what I played and I want more.
Don't you just love it when they make you pay for a beta? Fuck you Notch, you pioneering motherfucker.
The demo has like, 90% of the gameplay. The only thing you're really missing is having the 600ish AI and vehicles. There aren't any online servers to play in anyway.
Bump.
Your bump just cost me £5.99 I shouldn't be spending!! :v: In all seriousness though, this is fun. I remember playing it ages ago and wow has it improved since.
