Independent games generally are more expressive than your everyday AAA title due to the smaller development team's who are all people that are extremely passionate about what they are making, giving their games a much more personal feel.
I know that there are several other indie games that already have individual threads but I still feel that there needs to be a place to share and discuss the games that are too small to warrant their own thread.
To start you off here are some of my favorite indie titles

They Bleed Pixels
They Bleed Pixels is a really charming platformer where you play as a young girl who has constant nightmares that she is slowly turning into a monster. The gameplay is very much like Super Meat Boy with the addition of combat that comes just as smoothly as Meat Boy's platforming.
To the Moon

In To The Moon you help old man fulfill his dream of going to the moon from his deathbed by using your machine that allows you to enter and alter his memories revealing more and more about him the further you go into his past, there isn't much gameplay here because it is essentially a visual novel but I highly recommend giving it a try. (P.S. If you really enjoyed this you should check out the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind")
Cave Story+
Cave Story is a very popular indie game created by a single man by the name of Pixel, this game is full of charm as you explore deeper into the world of Cave Story you will slowly unwrap a surprisingly intricate and well delivered story.
Digital: A Love Story

This is a beautiful love story told entirely from the perspective of a 1980's computer. Have fun exploring the BBS's and finding useful software to continue your journey. (If you really enjoyed this there is a spiritual sequel entitled Analogue: a Hate Story here.)
Cave Story
The freeware version of cavestory that is essentially the same game with un-updated graphics/music, I highly recommend Cave Story+ so that you can support of the developers unless you are strapped for cash.
Zineth
This is my most recent find, Zenith aesthetically screams 'Jet Set Radio' which is not a bad thing in the slightest. The gameplay is all about speed and getting fast enough to get where you need to go [sp](maybe even the moon)[/sp].
I'm really looking for some great story driven games right now if someone wants to suggest some of those.
