This is a rant, just to clarify it. Also, Wall of text.
So apparently theres this company called Nexon who publish "mmo"s.
Their most popular games are probably Combat Arms, Maplestory and Mabinogi.
If i am right they are Korean or Japan based. Now this is where shit starts. They are making a version of their games for each part of the earth, meaning you have Combat Arms EU, NA and a korean one. Point is, for every version that isnt in your country code you'll get IP blocked.
This would be no problem if there wouldnt be the horribly long delays between their launches. Example CA: NA has patch 31 while EU has patch 30.
Example Mabinogi: NA has expansion 12 while EU has 2 or 3.
At the time when CA EU launched, one of my school friend discovered it and was like "yall gotta play dis awezum nu shiz" and we all downlaoded the game and played it quite a lot. I have to admit, the game was mucn fun at the beginning, and also kind of balanced. Nexon put new wepaons into it with every update. but at some point, they announced the launch of the black market, another word for NX Store.
This happens to all Nexon games at one point. The NX Store is basically a Store where you can buy ingame gear and characters for real money. Now while that iskinda shit in itself, in CA'S case NExon kept adding such unbelievably overpowered shit to it that CA has become a competition of who is ready to spend 1000$ on it. Most of ma friend have stopped now, but some still spend money for NX every month.
Well, i stopped playing CA from a bit after that point.
Then i tried Mabinogi.
Also, Mabinogi looked okay at the start, and still has awesome social features and a kind of unique skill system. Point is, i had to use a proxy for it to even work because the EU version wasnt even out at that point. But here too the updates came and the NX Store came. They added a new continent wich should maybe move the players to buy themselves flymounts, wich gave me some funny moments because i had passed it by foot.
A few months ago, the EU evrsion launched, starting at patch 0, and i played that (yea i am stupid). Same story, same shit.
Haven't played Maple yet, im no gonna start.
Tl:dr(whatever it is) Nexon is a shitty company with unbalanced games wich force you to spend real money to succeed if you dont wanna grind.
Di anyone else play that games? Does anyone still play(or pay) them?
I played Maplestory for a while but got boring quickly after lvl 13.
Ah Nexon. Yeah I agree with you on all points haha. I used to play Maplestory back in the day got to 70 haha.
I play the Korean version of mabinogi now and then, despite being European. (Nexon is South Korean, just to let you know). For some reason the Korean one doesn't have an ip block, whilst the US version does. Need to have a Korean national identity number to sign up though... and need to be able to understand Korean.
As for the whole cash for items thing, that's more an issue you have with that type of payment plan than with Nexon itself- for mabinogi at least you're not paying any subscription fee, so it stands to reason that they will try to leech money from you another way- EU based games like runes of magic do simmilar stuff.
My cousins and I were into Maplestory back in '06, luckily for me I got bored of it and quit. Unfortunately for my cousins they got sucked in, one of them bought that NX points thing almost every week. Wasted a shit load of money, damn kids.
One of the poeple i came to know through CA Clans has spend over 700 Euros on CA.
To be honest Mabinogi does not require the cash shop to be better than others. All you really need it for is a mount.
grindfest.
I remember playing Mabinogi, it was probably one of the most entertaining MMORPG's i've played.
The grinding wasn't horrible, it was pretty fun.
I did buy mounts for it like an eagle and horse and stuff.
But i didn't play for awhile and Nexon decided it wanted to update it's security.
So now you have to enter a new password, and you know what they did?
RESET MY PASSSWORD! I had $30 worth of mounts on that, each mount was like $10 or $20.
I got really pissed, and you can't even email them or anything. Even with the password they sent you that they reset for you doesn't work because its a number longer than required to change your original password.
Fair to say i won't be playing Nexon games for a long time.........or until Vindictus comes out.

i wouldn't be surprised korea doesn't have an ip blocker because you need the registration number, and even if you do get a hold of one and you're not a south korean resident, congratulations, you just committed identity theft.
I like dungeon & fighter
it's p fun
except for the fact that i cannot get potions anywhere and that pisses me off

Well, I have their permission, my girlfriend (who is korean) wanted me to play so her dad let me use his ID.

Long distance relationship? Hows that working out for you?
I was planning on getting Vindictus back when it was still Mabinogi: Heroes, but looking at some recently released gameplay stuff it just looks like button mashing "attack" for the most part, and the enemy animations were really choppy. Gonna watch some more before I make my mind up though.

Pretty well, other than travel costs. She's hoping to move back to Europe more permanantly soon, she's looking at jobs in localisation for some korean MMOs funnily enough.
I haven't heard much about Mabinogi 2/heroes/vindictus for a while, guessing nothing is slated to happen in europe for ages anyway. Early stuff I did see looked nothing at all like the original mabinogi though.
Also, fun fact, Mabinogi is supposedly set in Wales. I personally find that hilarious.

Have her work on Tera because I want that to be released or something already.

She actually has an interview for that coming up- been translating some lore in preperation for it, which must be pretty weird.
However, unless you're waiting for the French localisation it won't affect you at all.
Goddamn it why french of all languages. :arghfist::saddowns:

I'm sure they employ other people! They're further ahead on english release, they haven't even got a French language site yet, which is why they're only just employing translators for that now.
Some of the trial translation she's doing is in-game text though, but the only interesting thing i noticed was an error message saying you can't equip an item because you already have a higher level one equiped, which seems odd.

Makes sense if you think about it.
Why would you equip a weapon that's worse than the one you're using?

Just because it's lower level doesn't mean it's worse.
Nexon games are godawful. You should be happy they are IP blocking and take the oppertunity to escape

I don't even think the games themselves are bad or anything, Nexon's wrecking them.
Combat Arms was good when it first launched, no "Black Market" bullshit and everything was unbalanced. Now you need NX items to get good characters and guns.
^this
I played maplestory for 2 years and got to level 117, then Nexon IP banned my country.
I played maplestory for 2 years and got to level 117, then Nexon IP banned my country.
I thought all who had an account pre-Europe ban could still log in.
I could, at least.
But if they banned your COUNTRY, that's dumb man.
Maplestory was a huuuuugee grind fest. I remember I turned on some trance 1 day, turned off the lights, and leveled from 68-70 in a single day. Took 10 hours straight. Literally 10 hours.
I played Maplestory for a while but got boring quickly after lvl 13.
Fuck I got to lvl 64, then 36 and then I realized pokemon was the SHIZNIT.
Used to play Mabinogi for a few months, (total level 500 something) then Iria patch came and Solo grinding on "black tailed mongooses" was the fastest way to get EXP. Which is what I did for a wile even though it was the most boring thing I've done there. (I knew if I partied anywhere else the EXP I earned would be smaller so I would be "wasting time")
Until this "mass auto ban" came about people found a way to dupe gold with the "housing system."
All I need to say is I never owned a house, I never did shit. Sent a ticket got replied they were looking into it after a week, after a month they came with the results that was basically "We checked your records and you have indeed exploited blah blah, we are unbanning your account, but if you do this again you are getting perm banned. We have not removed any currency from your account."
I was like seriously what the fuck. If in the end got to keep this "duped" money I should of just duped in the first place. This just made me hate Nexon to no end.
Though one thing came out of this, I got off being addicted from that game and didn't even care to play it anymore after being banned.
I used to be really, really into this game until they made the update where you have to sign into the website instead of the actual game. Normally, I wouldn't really care either way. Most of the time, however, it doesn't fucking work.
I have a puny laptop. Yes, I know I should get a real computer like a normal person. The thing is that I'm not going to waste my time on something when I'm not guaranteed to be playing after fifteen minutes. Yeah, I'll miss my characters. But about that puny laptop thing: I can't even play the new generations. My computer goes into fits of not responding.
So I found a new game. One that doesn't ban my friends for shit they didn't do.
