Now, before you people who don't read the first post start posting, "ur dum fuck lol," just wait.
As a lot of you know, Valve likes to hire developers straight out of college, sometimes even straight out of high school. Most of the time when they do this, it's because that developer/s created a game or a mod that Valve likes.
Things like Narbacular Drop and The Power of Paint, for example. The Narbacular Drop team was hired for Portal and the Tag Team was hired for Portal 2.
So am I the only one who thinks that the games by the teams should be on Steam for free download? I know you can download them from various websites, but Valve should be supporting these games, because if it wasn't for Digipen games, Valve wouldn't have Portal.
Discuss.
I personally, don't think they would ever release the games for free, as in honest reality, its all about money for them. They don't care about promoting other people games or products if it involves no profit.
Sure, I mean it's pretty easy to get them elsewhere, but it'd be nice if they had em on steam.
I really do think they should.
The steam platform is a great way to promote indie games, as it already is but I would very much like to see more free games on steam. The ability to, as an independent game developer, submit your game to valve and have it featured on Steam for the millions of people that use it daily to see would be very interesting for the spreading of new ideas in the gaming culture.
I guess it's the same idea as Valve releasing SourceMods on Steam.

They already are free. Same difference.

If they are already free then this thread serves no purpose...

No, this threat is asking whether they should be on Steam, because they're not.

Portal
Sure, this'd be quite nice. It would help these indie teams get more publicity for their games.

Isn't it called Tag?
It's not up to Valve. All games made at DigiPen are owned by DigiPen, so it's up to them to make this deal. But because of their educational software licences, this is pretty much legally impossible... it's just not going to happen.
However, Dave and I made the professional game, Incrediball, between Narbacular Drop and Portal. Sadly I've never been able to convince anyone to get it on Steam. If a petition got that going... I'd be super grateful!

The full title is:
"Tag: The Power of Paint"
I was the 69th person to vote yes.

That comment was called for. And for the topic, I say yes.

I was the first. :P
Probably because I made the poll, though...
I'm thinking we should make this a petition...

I dare you to search "Synergy" on steam. Sure its a mod, but its a no-profit game. (Not quite sure how they got it on there!)

Ofcourse it's non-profit, it's a mod. :downs: It's on steam because valve decided to add some mods to the content server to keep modding alive.

I wasn't aware that Tag was the same as Counter-Strike. And that Narbacular Drop was the same as Team-Fortress Classic.
There already are some free games, they're just listed as demos.
