• Was the Nova Prospekt gunship battle altered at some point?

All of you who have played HL2 know the part at the end of Sandtraps where you fight the two gunships in the Nova Prospekt courtyard. However, back when I played HL2 the first time about 8 years ago, I distinctly remember that there were three gunships instead of just two during the battle. I remember having been confused during my second playthrough, as there were only two of them that time. This has also been the case with every subsequent playthrough since then. Was the third gunship removed in an early update? Or did I just experience some strange bug during that first playthrough? Does anyone but I remember anything similiar? The whole thing just puzzles me.
May have been best to ask in http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1231468
No, there always were just two.
I don't remember three either...
From my experience, if you play on easy mode it will spawn one, then the second one will spawn after you kill the first. On normal mode the one spawns and then a second spawns a few minutes later whether the first one is killed or not. I haven't played on hard in ages.. but I do remember that part being extremely difficult, I wouldn't be surprised if there was 3.
on the Xbox version there's only one, if i remember correctly.
Depends on the difficulty settings, maybe? But I think difficulty modifies only sk_ parameters in HL2.
1st comes in 2nd is called in when the first lost half of its health always been like this although I can show you the true differences from hl2 2006 and orangebox hl2
Please do.
I will do a HL2+EP1 run right now, and do it. though we might need a better thread for this
Depends on the difficulty settings, maybe? On every single subsequent playthrough, no matter what difficulty I used, there have always been two gunships. The other possibility is that it was some kind of one-time bug, but I just can't imagine what could have caused it, and it frankly seems kind of tidy that such an awfully specific thing as an extra gunship should have occured due to one (but I'm no expert in these matters).

I just played HL2 on hardmode, and I can confirm that only 2 spawn on hard.
There have only ever been two gunships in that battle. The problem I've noticed is the second gunship NEVER crashes into the prison wall, so the hole that the explosion is supposed to create forms for no logical reason.

It just shoots at that container thing for no particular reason :v: [editline]1st February 2013[/editline] Speaking of Gunships crashing, add that to another thing broken by the OB Update: The Gunship on Highway 17 doesn't crash land on the pile of cars.
I don't think it's supposed to crash into the wall. It did it properly pre-2010, but now it never does.
I think there's a special entity that tells the airships to crash into but if it can't or it's out of reach, it tries its best and usually fails at it
I'm aware of that, but it simply doesn't do it nomatter where it is. The last time I tried it, I quick-saved before the last shot, then proceeded to try and make it crash land. Even when it was very close to the road, it didn't crash, it always blew up. After over a dozen tries I concluded that an update must've broken that feature.
