Imagine if the Nintendo 3DS had TWO joysticks! It would be like a freakin' Xbox controller. It would also be arguably the best hand held console for first person shooters. Sorry for the shit photo manipulation job. I just did it real quick in M$ Paint so I could create a proof of concept. I am very much aware of the fact that it's is dumb. That's why I tagged my thread as being stupid. Anyone can see the tag and the tag should be a very good indicator of what to expect in the thread.
How would that be anything like an Xbox controller?
I doubt any FPS on a handheld can work out well. At least the type that the mainstream FPS players crave. Not only would a handheld be too weak hardware wise, but the screens won't be large enough for people to be comfortable with.
You use the touch screen as the second analog stick. In a way it's even better than an analog stick, and this has been proven by existing FPS games on the original DS.

I'm sure game developers would build first person shooters from the ground up for the DS. Those kinds of FPSs would be lunch break type games, not full fledged hardcore games like Halo or Resistance. It would be like a Xbox controller because the buttons and joystick layout is nearly the same. It would just be missing the the bumper buttons and the center "x" button.

But the position of the second joystick in the OP's picture seems kind of awkward because it's so close to the bottom I don't know if you'd be able to get a prper grip on the console with your right hand.
How would that be anything like an Xbox controller?
i guess he means the way the sticks and the buttons are set up [img_thumb]http://playingo.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/xbox360controller.jpg[/img_thumb]
OP: are you 10?
So what if he is? Are you going to bitch about it?
Shoulder Buttons + Touch Screen + ABXY/D-Pad Thread can die now.
"yay it'd be just like xbox!!!" and then he replaces the S in microsoft with an $ OP: are you 10? [editline]12:21PM[/editline] and on a more related note: that's a horrible idea
No, I'm not ten. I'm expressing excitement about a hardware revision that will most likely never happen because it would be great for hand held FPSs. It would be great for third person games too so that you can control the camera angle. So what about the dollar sign? I'm implying that Micro$oft is an evil, greedy mega-corporation (in the hyper-capitalistic, dystopian near future).
The touchscreen solution works fine, I think it's an even better solution then two analog sticks. Feels more like mous+keyboard.
