• FPS drop when looking at certain sprites in the EP2 engine

I get a serious drop in fps when looking at certain sprite effects, such as black smoke (the [sp]rocket launch[/sp] in Episode 2, for example) and dust effects. I'm not sure what's causing this, I don't have this problem in the old Half-Life 2 engine. Any ideas?
Crap PC? What's your specs. This is usually caused by either a shit graphics card or outdated drivers, it's because of the transparency.
change dx level to 9
change dx level to 9
Uh, that's the maximum level.
No, 98 is in source. Which does fuck all, but still.
mat_dxlevel 90 - DX9 with Shader Model 2 mat_dxlevel 95 - DX9 with Shader Model 3 mat_dxlevel 98 - DX9 on DX10 hardware (SM 4)
Oh great, they just decided to fucking ruin the older Half-Life 2 games for me by updating the engine. I used to be able to run HL2 perfectly. FUCK YOU VALVE God damnit
If you can't run Episode 2 well you might want to upgrade.
Problem is that I have an integrated graphics card, so I will have to get a brand new computer. Which isn't cheap. Fucking hell.

I'm open to suggestions if you know how to replace a motherboard. [editline]fa[/editline] Nevermind, I don't actually have a graphics card in the first place. I have no idea how that would work.

I wish i could play on source 04. There was something more... satisfying about it...
