the original idea for VALVe's first video games (later idea was half life) were Quiver and Prospero basicly, in Prospero, you were to play as a women named Aleph (or librarian) and had psionic powers pics full section...really :
Prospero[1] was one of Valve's first game designs, slated to come out shortly after Half-Life. Contents [show] 1 Overview 2 Trivia 3 Gallery 4 Notes and references 5 See also edit OverviewThe game emphasized exploration, an intricate storyline, and combat via "psionic" powers. Influences would have included the video game Myst and the works of Jorge Luis Borges.[1] The protagonist of Prospero (known as "The Librarian" or "Aleph") underwent a series of design changes during the early development of the game. One iteration relied heavily on the use of psionic amplifiers to augment her innate abilities. As the design of Quiver started to take over some of Prospero initial goals, Prospero evolved into a massively multiplayer game. It was also intended to be distributed with a mix of official and user-created worlds that could be accessed through an in-game library, and each game would be running on its own server. Online distribution, server browser, a friend finder, user-created content and other concepts initially conceived for Prospero would eventually find their way into the Half-Life series, Steam, and Valve's support of fan-made modifications. edit Trivia"Prospero" is the Italian, Portuguese and Spanish version of the first name "Prosper", which comes from the Roman name "Prosperus", which means "prosperous", "fortunate" or "successful" in Latin.[2][3] In the Half-Life sound files folder (Steam version), the music files commonly known as "Dimensionless Deepness", "Steam in the Pipes, "Threatening (Short)", "Traveling Through Limbo" and "Vague Voices" are named "prospero01" to "prospero05", which could imply that the tracks were initially made for Prospero. In the playable Half-Life 2 Beta sound files, Breen can be heard mentioning the "Aleph universe", as a possible early name for the Combine Overworld.[4] This name was probably recycled from Prospero.
sorry, i screwed up on Quiver , could a mod delete it from the title??? if you have info, want to see these games made, or generally want to talk about these, feel free to
I read about this in my copy of Raising the Bar, I am glad they made Half-Life instead.
It's funny because Quiver is Half life.
It's funny because Quiver is Half life.
No. [editline]3:56pm[/editline] nevermind I am wrong
It is. Quiver was codename of Half-Life.
It is. Quiver was codename of Half-Life.
Not according to Raising the Bar. [editline]11:55PM[/editline] Wait, no nevermind, I was thinking of prospero.
OP's post sucks.
I still think this would've been a pretty cool game.
maby, someone can email VALVe and ask if they have plans for Prospero in the future, or you could pursuade them into the idea
maby, someone can email VALVe and ask if they have plans for Prospero in the future, or you could pursuade them into the idea
Doubtful.
yeah, but you never know
Hmm. Interesting. That's so true.
Oh look it's you.
so...anyone have ideas that would be good in this game? (if its ever made)
a video game based on the works of Jorge Luis Borges (an argentinian poet all of us are proud of and love.) That would be so awesome, it couldn't be done. That's why they scrapped it. It was too awesome.
