i got SCZ today and i cant run it, it gets to the intro with the tv moving towards the screen, and then when this weird zombie face pops up on the tv it starts repeating a sound and when i alt tab out of it i get this message: run-time error '-2005530509 (88760873)':
automation error
my OS is windows 7 and i have the vista 64 fix for the game, any ideas on what i can do?
PS heres screenshot when i get repeating sound: http://www.flickr.com/photos/53779596@N04/497
I would try reinstalling the game, or playing without sound. Whenever I alt tab out of SCZ it closes with a run time error, or you could just wait for the sound to end. That happened to me once and I waited it out and it was over.
i tried reinstalling, didnt work, and when the sound repeats i also hear an error sound, like that bleep sound you here when an error message pops up, and how do i play without sound?
EDIT: how long did u have to wait?
Look for the Vista fix. One of the older threads here on FP have it.
lol i said i have the vista fix
so.....what do i do?
I am using the same OS and having the same issue you are. I have used the vista fix also but that only let me launch the game, same error message and everything. Would love to try this game out but I have not been able to find any way to fix this issue.
ok good at least im not the only one.
and by the way i dont alt-tab out of it, i just hit the windows key( the key with the windows sign on it)
so can anyone help me?
Have you tried skipping that cut scene? I think I remember freezing on that part too, but skipping it worked.

how can i skip it?
I did the vista fix and i still got the "Active X Runtime error"
Win 7 64 bit.
Weird, my issue is when I try and create a new user, I get Runtime 75 error.
ATTENTION!!
Try this AND the fix that I've found in the end!
For vista: you must download 3 files
dx7vb.dll

dx8vb.dll

d3drm.dll

For Vista 32 bit
You can find them on your XP installation under the Windows\System32 directory.
2. Now that you have those 3 files, you need to put them in the Vista system32 directory, this is usually C:\Windows\System32 - best way to do this is to move them using Windows Explorer.
3. Go to the Start Button, choose All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. You should get a black window titled "Administrator: Command Prompt" - if not, right click Command Prompt in the start menu and choose "Run as administrator".
4. In the command window, type in the following (note that <enter> means press the enter key):
cd c:\windows\system32 <enter> (assuming windows is on your C: drive, if not put the correct letter in.)
regsvr32 dx7vb.dll <enter> Click OK on the window that comes up saying dllregserver succeeded
regsvr32 dx8vb.dll <enter> Click OK on the window that comes up saying dllregserver succeeded
exit <enter>

For Vista 64
You can find them on your XP installation under the Windows\System32 directory.
2. Now that you have those 3 files, you need to put them in the Vista syswow64 directory, this is usually C:\Windows\syswow64 - best way to do this is to move them using Windows Explorer.
3. Go to the Start Button, choose All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. You should get a black window titled "Administrator: Command Prompt" - if not, right click Command Prompt in the start menu and choose "Run as administrator".
4. cd c:\windows\syswow64 <enter> (assuming windows is on your C: drive, if not put the correct letter in.)
regsvr32 dx7vb.dll <enter> Click OK on the window that comes up saying dllregserver succeeded
regsvr32 dx8vb.dll <enter> Click OK on the window that comes up saying dllregserver succeeded
exit <enter>
Now, if this isn't enough!
Go to the properties of the SCZ.exe and go to compatibility and select Windows 2000 and run it as Administrator.
OK!!
