Noctis IV - Virtually Unlimited Space Exploration Sim

Description(from the site):
"Noctis: the latin word for "night", and the title of this simulator. Night, after all, is just the word we use to describe the absence of light while the Earth is turned away from the sun, and in space, there is no light but the distant pinpricks of ancient stars. Space is a lonely place, but it harbours some truly spectacular secrets; eerily glowing pulsars, enormous red giants, glittering, beautiful nebulae, and deadly, all-consuming singularities to name but a few. For most people, the thought of going into space and exploring such sights is an impossible dream. But no longer; Noctis allows you to do just that. In technical terms, it is a fully 3D galaxy, which allows you to explore thousands of stars, their planets and moons. From the moment you first play Noctis, you'll be hooked."
Basically it's a game where you get to fly around a galaxy exploring thousands of planets, some having life.
This game is free, and you are free to go anywhere you want in the game. and I remember rumours of Noctis V having online play.

You know what would be nice? if this and Spore had a baby... Leave out the creature creating and civilizations, but include the stylized graphics and planets, along with all the features of Noctis
I have no idea how to play this game. I'd just wonder around the ship. But i'd be floating. was confusing.
It literally is the easiest game to figure out.
Anyway, it gets boring after a while because all you do is walk around/fly around. Nothing really to do.

Oh you mean if spore was actually good and was what they said it was going to be? yeah I know that would be pretty COOL
Nice job stealing almost everything from my 1 year old thread. Except the information that was in it.
But nice of you to hook Noctis up again.
I played it a while ago.
Yesterday, when I was looking up space games, I came across it again.
Other games that are good (That actually have a goal) are Ad Astra and Evochron Legends.
Doesn't work on 64 bit?
Noctis lets you know just how boring the depths of space really are.
Loofiloo haha, I love you.
Also, somewhat related, anyone know the name of that game where you're stranded on a planet? It's a heads-down view. You can play as a human, an alien or a robot thing. You combine stuff to make things, it's really great. It sounds like Noctis, I just can't remember...

Notrium is what you are thinking of.
Thanks mate. Was on the tip of my tongue.
Doesn't work with vista even in compatibility mode
I tried to play it once. The controls are too frustrating.
Isn't there Noctis CE?

Same. Fuck you too Vista.
As people have said, it doesn't have that much replayability.
But I still say it's worth getting into. It's fun while it lasts and it's pretty amazing how beautiful the game can be at times. It's one of those games that would never exist if it wasn't for PC gaming.
I'm still crossing my fingers that one day Notcis V will come out... but it's been in development for eight years now and is most likely vaporware.
can't download
page keeps refreshing when i press download

no replayability?
what are you retarded there thousands of solar systems to explore
no replayability?

saying that is like saying there are thousands of mc donalds to explore
just because they are in different places doesn't mean it's not the same shit
Yeah basically every planet is another empty monochrome landscape. In extremely rare cases, you find life, which I think is in the form of weird-looking rabbit things that you can't interact with.
How about someone posts the controls because I could barely get around the first time I played it.
i have to agree, the game can be beautiful but really, when it's looking it's worst there is nothing with more horrible graphics.

Version that works with Vista. Run DWNoctis.exe after extracting.
God, I loved this game back then. I used to just roam around and claim stars and planets. Eventually, there was a huge chunk of space named after me. :downs:
The one thing I used to hate about this game was I couldn't figure out the controls. I can move around in my ship and all, but I can't select remote targets or local targets, or deploy capsules and etc.
Rage.
Whoops, forgot I made a vid about this few months ago.
