Yeah i went into the keyboard menu and it said there was a walk option, i binded it to alt and tried to walk and he moves at the same speed he does when running by default. Is there a way to slow his walking pace down?
Are you holding down alt while trying to move? That works for me.

He "walks" at the same speed as he runs. How do i make him walk slower?
I'm pretty sure the walk is the normal speed and sprint is the run, don't think you can slow him down.

I'm pretty sure he walks slower when you hold down WALK button, there's some command that makes you see velocity, although I don't remember it.
If you are at the beginning, you cannot sprint nor, "run". Wait until you get the HEV suit first.

Gordon moves like hovering Asafa Powell on steroids by default.
If I play in a gamemode where you play as a ghost that can noclip, I go to unreachable areas and just use the walk to slowly walk by, creeps others out.

Well in goldsource if you hold down your use key you will walk even slower than if you did with walk key
In HL1, you were technically always going at running speed, unless you held down the Walk button or pressed the Use key.
Since there's an option to sprint in HL2, you walk by default. There's no reason to have you walk when walking.
Therefore the Walk button doesn't really do anything.
Valve made a mistake in HL2's code.
However, there IS a speed reduction when holding down your walk key in HL2. It's around 20 hammer units per second slower, which isn't noticeable. But the point is it's still "there".
