• Where should I start in modding?

I want to become skilled in modding, all the areas in it. But I don't know where to start. I have to be honest I have 0 experience with any of it because I just have no idea where to learn terms and gain experience. If you'd be nice enough, please point me in the direction for where to start, I really want to begin now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I would start with Mapping, mapping is always good. Then after like 3-4 months try modeling for a bit, as well as some texturing. Carry on with Mapping and modeling for at least 6 months, then sit down, think of your mod idea, and get to work creating assets for it. Then maybe learn coding. I don't know, it is up to you really.

Ok, I'm using my dads shit computer. It sucks so hard it crashes whenever I try to turn the video settings down. No idea why. I have HL2, Ep1, EP2 installed. What program should I use?

Start with mapping, it's the easiest to learn(although hard to master), then after you are pretty decent with mapping, try modeling(it's like mapping but handles more complex geometry), and if you really want serious stuff, learn how to code. Don't think about mods until you are at least decent at one of those areas, mapping, modeling or coding.

Hmm, I'm using Hammer and trying to go through some mapping tutorials but for some reason my computer won't add texture to the walls of the room I built. It's very annoying. Ahh fuck this compy it sucks dick :emo: All it does is come up wireframed'.
